| I just read that conventional American apples are banned in Europe because of the level of chemicals. Yikes! What independent schools in Washington, D.C. offer an organic lunch program? Are any a hybrid where they at least offer the "dirty dozen" in organic and cleaner produce is sometimes conventional? |
OP, as a food scientist, all I can say is that people like you really scare me. |
So your number one criteria for a school is whether they serve organic lunch or not?
|
| The ones where you pack. |
|
Holton offers very healthy, organic and vegetarian products. Not all but they switched companies this year and the food is top notch. Lots of local foods too.
I am not sure of any that does 100% organic though. |
Where did I say that this was my number one priority in a school?
http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/04/24/food-apples-idINL2N0NF1D320140424 What children eat is a valid concern. I am curious about which schools share my concern. |
| GDS. Pack whatever you want. |
| OP. pack your kids lunch. |
| OP on your same page. These are same parents who hand their kids their iphones without putting them on airplane mode. Food scientists know the deal unless they working for the dairy industry. Apples & Strawberries that are not organic? Most schools go the cheap route and laugh their way to the bank. You can count on everyones favorite - Sidwell and Sheridan also shares same caterer to do the organic stuff. |
|
What company doesn't
Holton use? |
What food scientists "know" is that the vast majority of American consumers have no idea what they are talking about when they speak on this subject. As OP demonstrates. |
| Sandy Spring cooks fresh organic meals every day including a vegan option. They have a multi-acre farm producing their own vegetables. They supply some restaurants in Olney and Rockville |
| 20:09 so the EU has "no idea what they are talking about"? |
|
To actually answer your question, Sheridan.
|
| Sidwell and Sheridan for sure in the DC area. We had the same concern since preschool days when they would hand our kids apples from the local farm. Apples are #1 or #2 in the dirty dozen. OP is correct and for those food scientist out there - we would welcome proof of the amounts of pesticides are safe. |
