| Someone tried to cash a check I wrote, and came back to me to say it had been declined. I have sufficient balance and called my bank who said there was no record of a check being declined, so I'm confused and now a little concerned. The bank kept the check and said they will mail documentation to the person. What? This person is not a native english speaker, so there may be something lost in the translation. Anyone know what could have happened? I wrote another check, but like I said, I'm a little concerned. |
| Did he try to cash it at a different bank than the one the check was written from or does he not have an account with the bank? |
me again. So the bank he went to kept the check & you wrote another check? Are you sure he just didn't keep the first one & get you to write a second with the the plan of cashing both? |
I believe it was a different bank, but I can find out for sure. I know their bank might have turned them down if they don't have enough cash in their account, but they made it seem like there was something wrong with my check. But maybe they misunderstood. This is someone I pay on a weekly basis, so they have not had this problem before. |
Sure, this could have happened, but since I pay this person regularly, I'm not *that* worried about that possibiliy. |
Good to know. I'd bet it was because the check was for a different bank. They would probably let her deposit it to her account & hold the funds until it cleared. Maybe someone new working didn't explain it, maybe her account was lower than usual, or first time bank employee followed the rules. Gone are the days when you can just walk into a bank and cash a check. |
You're right, that's probably it, and they misunderstood. |
| The person foreigner-many don't write check, and I don't even know what a check is.Went to a wrong bank and didn't have 2 ID's. |
| I've had a similar situation happen when someone tried to deposit a check electronically (where you take a picture of the check) twice. I think the check got declined the second time the deposited and they had forgotten they had already deposited so it seemed like the check was bouncing. |
| I had the same thing happen. I found out that the recipient was using an alternative banking system, like Greendot. Their system can reject checks for a myriad of reasons. The check never even reached my bank before being declined. Ask him for the name of his bank. |
