ECNL moving to school year not calendar

This is what is still being worked on and they will present a various roll out plans for 8/1 and 9/1 and US soccer will approve one of them and that’s what it will be.

For example this will possibly start being phased in spring 25 with teams allowed X amount of players to join the team rules will be in place to limit the chaos. With this fully being implemented by Fall 26 for ALL clubs and leagues under the US soccer umbrella.

Another phase plan is no change for spring 25 but a full on start for all teams in Fall 25 however clubs will have the option to play up if they do not want to rip teams apart and start from scratch.

ECNL is waiting for this all to be approved and they have a master plan they will start and announce by January. Im told they will have slightly different age groupings but won’t be drastically different from the plan approved.

Which even they are not sure which it will be 8/1 or 9/1.

Youth soccer going to school year dates.

Parents never had a vote in this, you or those enemy parents on the other side.

You've convinced yourself of something based on comments online that may or may not be correct. I get that you're a girls ECNL dad but there's an entire spectrum of players and leagues outside of ECNL that US Soccer oversees.

There's still all kinds of ways this could play out.

You can drop the astroturf campaign now you've earned your 10 cents per post.
The head of USYS said it was passing. It's over but the fine print.

This is going to pass but all the small details about how the transition and who will play 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11, what month cut offs should be used, should states be allowed to use different cut offs. Lots of minor details that still have not been fully agreed on. Which is why the majority of leagues might not start until Fall 26.

It has to be Fall 2025. Otherwise, it will be total chaos across all the leagues and teams all over the US in the middle of their seasons. Now is an excellent time to start conversations.

What about kids who are Q4 but weren't held back so they are technically playing with their grade but just very young. If they are kicked down the to next team below of of course they will be stronger for having played against older kids their entire youth career, but now they would be in 9th grade, but still have another 8th grade ECNL season to deal with....I know some will respond that they don't have play down, but if 5-6 trapped NL players are coming from 2010, you might find yourself on the chopping block and prefer to take the younger team NL spot. From a recruiting perspective it brings issues as you will not be playing with your graduating class at ECNL events. Anyone else talking about this? Thanks

If you want the brass ring you got to earn it. Pretty straight forward.

My kids coach held a meeting last night for parents. The tennor was pretty somber his message was clear most of the kids on the Tean will be moving to B&C teams next season. They have 5 trapped players the year up and they are coming down plus all of the other clubs trapped players coming for their spots. My sons team has one trapped player. Both teams are top 20 in the country.

2010 SD Surf has 5 to 6 trapped players from their NL and 2 RL teams. They will take over the 2011 NL spots.

Is this boys or girls SD 2010 Surf?

Spoke with a director briefly about this, at least at our club he said the realignment would be mandatory i.e. unless your kid is amazing they won't be playing up on their current team after the switch.

Also strongly felt that there was zero chance of a Spring 2025 cutover due to the chaos that would cause with teams already selected and practicing and that Fall 2026 would be far too far away.

Take it with a grain of salt as there wasn't hard data, and the mandatory bit is specific of course to our club.

As a parent of an 8th grade girl soccer player I’d like the shake up to happen this spring so that she can see what the team is like and decide whether to stay or shop around. If the change doesn’t take place until the fall and her team is hurt by it, it sucks up a year of important playing time. Let’s get it done with.

The oldest team, u18/u19, is very big, about 1.5 times. Those Q3/Q4 players will be dropped to u17 to reduce the u18/19 roster size. When you adjust from top to bottom, I can see it will be tough to keep playing up unless you are still a game changer after adjusting. If that player still exists, he should go to MLS Academy.

It would be shocking to see a league actually change cutoffs for competition without tryouts to allow clubs to balance rosters. But if I were a club director I would probably do something like having one practice per week arranged by the new cutoffs, as soon as it was announced. They might as well get a headstart, before open tryouts, on evaluating their own players against the new groups.

Can the club make the decision to keep them on their 2010 team? Is this rule enforced?

You could have them drop a grade in school.

Playing UP is up to the club and the level of competition and talent a player has.

Clubs can do whatever they want.

If BY changes to SY trapped players are eligible to play down with the year younger team. Or, they’re eligible to play up on their current team.

Clubs might force trapped players to play down . Or they might just let players decide what they want to do. It likely will all depend on the players, parernts, coaches, and teams.
