What's for dinner after a long trip and no food at home?

Been in the car all day. No food at home because we didn't shop this week to get rid of all the perishables. We ate out a decent amount over our spring break week so we don't want to eat out.

I want to stop at the store (Safeway) for no more than 15 minutes.

What would you pick up to make for dinner?

Rotisserie chicken, boxed, pre-washed lettuce and tomatoes for salad, dinner rolls.

Turkey, cheese and bread for sandwiches. Some fruit.

Breakfast for dinner. Scrambled eggs, pancake mix, berries, turkey breakfast sausage if you like that.

Or, pick up some ready-to-grill meat from the butcher counter or sausages from the case, some red bell peppers, some whole mushrooms, and a packet of rice for the microwave. Clean and cut peppers into quarters, clean mushrooms, toss both with some olive oil and sea salt, and grill with the meat.

I almost always have frozen food I know I can make.

Last time I returned home I ran into Safeway for red peppers, potatoes, strawberries, and a loaf of bread. Well, DH went in and I sat in the car!

Made frozen fish sticks, quick mashed potatoes (I had milk and sour cream), and sautéed up some frozen asparagus (good!) in olive oil and mixed in a sautéed fresh red pepper which I splashed with balsamic. Heated up a leaf of fresh bread.

Strawberries were to have fresh fruit in the morning.

PP here.

Sometimes I plan before I go and freeze a small baguette and make sure I have pasta, sauce, and either good frozen veggies or hearty long lasting fresh ones in the crisper (a pepper will last a long time, as will carrots).

Dinner is spaghetti marinara, roasted broccoli/carrots/peppers, and garlic bread. Frozen peas work in a pinch too.

Pick up a pizza on my way home.

I always keep a package of applegate hotdogs for just such occasions.

Pick up Peruivian chicken or Chipotle

We always keep emergency frozen food for this reason. Frozen peas, bubbas burger with fried egg on top. No bun. Black beans.

spaghetti, jarred sauce, frozen meatballs, frozen garlic bread and a bag of spinach to throw into the tomato sauce or eat as salad on the side. remember to pick up milk and whatever you need to breakfast and school lunches tomorrow!

Peanut Butter sandwiches. I keep the bread in the freezer. Last thing I feel like doing after a long car trip us prepare food and keep clean up to a minimum.

Thanks for the ideas!! I was going to do the spaghetti thing after the suggestions, but we had a very carb heavy vacation and I felt it, so I ended up getting a salmon filet since it looked fresh, frozen broccoli and frozen brown rice. I am baking the salmon with salt/lemon/butter. On foil so cleanup is easy.
