When I move

I will not get cable. I will tell Comcast to suck it!

We should all pledge to this...even if most of you can afford it!

They just took away my HGTV...It was going to be $80 more a month to get it back.

I told them to take HGTV and stick it up their ass.

I can live without cable! I can!

We moved and called to install Comcast in the new place (we had DirectTV at the old one). They wanted $120 a month for basic cable with n HD, no DVR, no OnDemand. We told them to uninstall it and didn't pay them a cent.

Antenna, NetFlix, Huluplus, library DvDs. Good to go.

Omg! I didn't know about the Comcast/HGTV spat. I have DirecTV and I would sure as hell cancel my contract if they cancelled HGTV. That and live sports are basically all we watch on cable anymore. The NFL Sunday ticket is what's keeping us from getting rid of it.

DTV got rid of the Weather Channel and I was not happy about that but I really don't ever watch that anymore anyway.

I remember the Dish Network/AMC spat awhile back and everyone was upset about missing Breaking Bad. It's really ridiculous that this kind of stuff keeps happening.

I'm so used to Netflix and Hulu and amazon now ...

The best perk is my kids watch less and don't get inundated with ads for shit. They don't pester to me to buy XyZ because they don't know it exists.

Yup this is what we do. DH misses some of the sport channels, but he can usually get stuff on his computer. Don't miss cable one bit.

You still need an internet connection. Where are you getting that?

Verizon Fios. We only pay for internet, no cable or phone.

How much do you pay per month?

A lot but DH is in IT and has been doing some programming on the side, plus for awhile was acting as the server for his company's website (not sure I got that right, I'm terrible with IT stuff) so he wanted a super high internet speed. We certainly pay more/have a higher internet speed than most people need.

Do people still have cable? I went the antenna/Netflix/Hulu route a long time ago and never looked back. Still have internet through the old cable company...

Please explain how this works. How do you watch news/sports?

I'm not PP, but I think it's not hard. You can get all the local news and sports channels (and other stuff they show) through the HD antenna -- ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. You can also get lots of other programs through Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc. When our current FIOS contract expires, we're planning to dump cable too.

For a while, I worried about key shows we like but will miss, but then I realized that we already lose certain shows periodically, such as when FIOS has a spat over a particular channel. When that happens, we gripe about it for about two weeks, then just find a replacement show. Same will happen when we dump cable entirely.

Only thing I wish is that HBO would sell direct access to us via Roku, without any cable package. We'd pay extra for that.

I don't pay for cable anymore. Netflix and Amazon Prime are enough for me. I do still pay for comcast internet, but it's $40/mo, so it's not too expensive. I would switch to a different provider if I found one that was cheaper. I hate Comcast.

HGTV is like the only thing I watch (except kids channels) - I would be PISSED.
