When I move

I have Comcast and no problem with HGTV or higher rates. I will count myself lucky, I guess.

Please explain how this works. How do you watch news/sports?

I'm not PP, but I think it's not hard. You can get all the local news and sports channels (and other stuff they show) through the HD antenna -- ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. You can also get lots of other programs through Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc. When our current FIOS contract expires, we're planning to dump cable too.

For a while, I worried about key shows we like but will miss, but then I realized that we already lose certain shows periodically, such as when FIOS has a spat over a particular channel. When that happens, we gripe about it for about two weeks, then just find a replacement show. Same will happen when we dump cable entirely.

Only thing I wish is that HBO would sell direct access to us via Roku, without any cable package. We'd pay extra for that.

Your wish has been granted! Well, sort of. Amazon just announced exclusive rights to HBO!!
