Costco Amex - worth it?

Anonymous
We've become regular Costco shoppers (now with the new DC opening)- but can't use our credit cards, obviously.

Has anyone liked the Costco Amex? Are the rewards worth it?
TIA!

It's the same cost as the costco membership, so you really aren't paying extra. The cash back is nice.

We got $1500 back this year. They wrote us a check. When it's been smaller amounts they've given us cash. Def worth it for us although obviously we charge a decent amount each month (which we pay in full).

Had it for years and it is pretty good. I have another card with better rewards, but Amex has good travel discounts and other benefits.

We've been very happy with it. Got about $500 back this year. You can cash the check at Costco without buying anything.

We had it, then dropped it for the fidelity Amex, which gives 2% on everything, no fees, no limit on cash back, they just dump the money in any fidelity account (brokerage, Ira, etc).

worthless, they don't give any credit until end of year, so they save up all credits and give you a check in the mail like feb or march. Then you can only spend at Costco.

Any you can't buy the concert tickets using AMEX from Costco. When you call early and try to use the number, they say it doesn't work even though other AMEX cards work.

we got rid of it.

But then you can't use it at Costco?

You can use any Amex at costco.

Wrong. You can cash it at Costco.

I like it. I got $400 back this year. I just take my check to Costco, and they give me cash.

Not true. You have to cash the check at Costco, but you don't have to spend it there.

Darling, they are writing everyone checks now. Whether it's $1,500 or $50. You can cash it if you go in the store

We've had the Costco AmEx for two years and it's my fav card to use. 5% cash back @ Costco, 3% on gas, 1% on everything else (I may be missing something) but I use it everywhere AmEx is accepted and so far, we've gotten about $300 in cash every time (there's a fall and a spring check) so it's more than enough to cover the Costco membership fees and it usually pays for one of our Costco trips. So I think of it as a frequent buyer program - make 9 trips, and the 10th is free kinda deal.

There are different options for the cash back rewards, but you earn the cash back points on every purchase you make, not just those at Costco. You get cash or a check from Costco in February or March. Since it is cash or a check you can use it anywhere or just deposit it and save it. In my book cash is better than points that can be exchanged for airplane tickets.
