| Hi _ I will be moving to DC next year and am trying to get a sense of how likely it will be for my son to get into an OOB school or a charter. However, I can't find anything on any website that lists the number of applicants and slots available for each of the public and charter schools over the last year or so. Is this information publicly available? Seems like it would also help when deciding which schools to apply for since then you could maybe put a few "safety" ones on there that aren't so oversubscribed as some others. |
| Are you thinking about the 2014-15 calendar year or 2015-16? |

OP look here: http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Learn+About+Schools/Lottery+and+Admissions:+Apply+to+Our+Schools/DCPS+Round+One+My+School+DC+Results
This includes school by school lottery results. Look at this for attendance zones: http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Files/downloads/SCHOOLS/Boundary%20Maps%20-%202009/DCPS-Attendance-Zones-Elementary-Grades-September-2009.pdf Tell us what else you need and we'll try to help. |

I don't think the length of wait lists for charters participating in the common lottery is made easily available. You can check out common lottery info here: http://www.myschooldc.org. I'm pretty sure any charter school not participating in the common lottery has also had their lottery at this point. You could certainly call schools and ask about their wait lists since they'll know but that's obviously time consuming. Also, the reality is that for desirable charters you're highly unlikely to get a spot for 2014-2015 unless you're entering into an upper grade possibly (although even then its pretty hard!). But you never know since some schools are in expansion years or just don't have that many applicants for a certain grade. But I'd at least apply in the common lottery (I think round 2 is May 15) and to any charters who aren't participating in common lottery - even though they've already had their lottery you can get on the wait list. Otherwise - try for a good charter that isn't as high on everyone's radar - Shining Stars comes to mind for example.
Best of luck - DC is nuts when it comes to public school! |

Thanks everyone! I am planning ahead, arriving in DC June 2015. But I am already poring over school descriptions and trying to come up with ideas and strategies! Our in boundary school will be Truesdell, which doesn't look so hot.

Ah, then you don't need to stress until next fall! One thing to note - if you plan on entering the lottery, you will need a DC address by May to prove residency. They are strict. Here's what will be required: http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Files/downloads/Learn-About-Schools/Enrollment/3_DCPS_Residency%20Verification%20Guidelines_2014-15[2][2].pdf |
| Get on Petworth Parents there is a crew there potentially looking at Truesdell. I believe you don't need a perfect school you just need some people to get into it with. |
| IS that a group on here? It would b e a relief to know that my inboundary school is OK. |
| Awesome table with the results! Thank you! |
|
I own a house that is currenlty rented out and which I will be moving into - hopefully that will be enough to prove residency.

| Are there any lists of the number of students who applied to Charters and the lengths of their wait lists, at least for those in the common lottery? |
