Mother'a Day lunch or brunch that's not Zoolike?

Anonymous
I am planning my own Mothers Day Outing for my boys to take me out on. Yes, this way everyone is happy. Especially me. I'm seeking a lovely not over the top expensive (like no $55 per person brunch) that is upscale but yummy. Will be in Old Town Alexandria for church in the morning. Did the Tabard Inn last year, and they were at least an hour behind with seating and serving. It was painful. Any suggestions that you've enjoyed? Don't mind driving elsewhere in Dc or MD. We love in Montgomery County. Thank you.

OP again. Brunch does not need to be buffet style.

I am not cooking on Mother's Day and dh only makes grilled cheese sandwiches, which will not suffice!

I will be at the annual "Mother's Day brunch" at my SILs house with her DH (who my husband does not like) and my overbearing MIL and FIL...feel free to take my place. (although I can't really recommend her cooking) I won't mind waiting for a table somewhere else.

I'd say pick a place that you normally like for brunch and get an early seating. Unfortunately, I think a lot of places are zoo-like.

How old are you kids? If they're on the older side, you could try more sophisticated places that people won't think of for littler kids.

DS is 7 and restaurant civil at this point, for the most part. We don't go out to brunch often. Maybe Silver Diner now and then.

I'd recast it as "lunch" and pick a place that doesn't have traditional "brunch." Maybe an ethnic restaurant.

Redwood has an ok buffet-- not sure how they do on Mothers Day.

Avoid going out on the actual day.

If you want to go out, do it the day before, or the next week. Its still a celebration -- if you aren't hung up on it being "the day".

If you make reservations it shouldn't be too much of a zoo. Mon Ami Gabi has a nice brunch. American Tap Room has a good buffet brunch on weekends.

Keep in mind that if you go to downtown Bethesda for Mother's Day, the Bethesda Arts Festival will be going on as well so it might be busier than usual down there.

Ditto. We go the Sunday before Mother's Day. Much less crowded. Problem solved!

Been to Silver Diner recently? It has, um, changed.

Clydes at the Mark Center does a decent brunch for Easter, so it might be a good option for Mothers Day. Del Ray Cafe also looks fun but will probably be busy.

Thanks. No I've not been lately, nor is it my idea of where I want to enjoy my Mother's Day meal.
