OP again. Flew across country today and by the time I got to call tabard inn, it was full for the day.

Yep. This is what we do. We also celebrate Valentine's Day on a different day than Feb. 14 for the same reason.

Do it at home but just buy stuff the day before: quiche, bagels, fruit, pastries, whatever. DH and your kids have to set up and clean up.
