Hardy no longer feeding to Wilson?

Anonymous
I heard from a teacher at one of Hardy's elementary feeder schools that this might happen. Has anyone else heard of this or seen it in any of the proposed boundary changes?

I believe it still feeds to Wilson in the materials posted. I don't think you have to worry there.

Option B mentions a Ward 2/3 HS (presumably at Ellington or another location TBD)...so presumably lower ward 3, western ward 2 would participiate.

This is one way to keep Shepherd Park, etc. in Wilson.

I think Hardy being moved to a new HS would be great. As pps mentioned, all materials either have Hardy continuing to feed Wilson, or, if a new Ward 3 HS is constructed, looking into sending Hardy there.

All options are fine, from my perspective.

Okay--so it sounds like any changes to Hardy or other schools regarding a new HS in Wards 2/3 is several years off...?

I agree--maybe a good plan.

The plans for Hardy are that it either remains as a Wilson feeder - or - at some point in the distant future feeds to a new Ward 3 High School.

Either option is a good one for Hardy.

Some of the proposal examples call for a city-wide high school lottery. In that case, no middle school will feed to a high school.

The Ellington location is off the table for another high school. Their renovation is underway. They move to swing space that's already being modified in June.

So what does that mean...new construction? that would be great but what do they do with Dunbar and Eastern--beautifully renovated buildings that need students?

Same thing as they've done with the beautifully renovated Hardy. It is still under capacity. No one worries.

not a good answer. People should be worrying. It might be better to sink money into improved educational outcomes instead of more buildings

Ellington is an historic building and the renovation will add additional square footage while preserving the facade. It will also add a few more students. It's already over-capacity.

Have you heard of Ballou?

Ward 3 needs a new HS. I wish someone could have put the brakes on the Ellington renovation until this was settled.

There's been talk and talk but sadly never any action on building an new Ellington in a better location, Specifically, a purpose built performing arts high school could be built, located nearby a major cultural complex, more centrally located and near a Metro to better serve the students who live across the city. For example, the school site at Maine Ave, 7th and H, SE would be a perfect location, only a block from Arena.
