What is the definition of a "busybody"?

Anonymous
For example, my coworker called me to tell me that she saw my husband at Target in the middle of the day. She asked if I knew that he was there. I said "No, but he is probably just picking up some detergent. We're almost out and Target has the best price". Is that a busybody thing for her to do? I can't quite grasp the meaning of the phrase lol.

A busybody is someone who is always in everyone else's business. The opposite of someone who minds his or her own business.

Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched. Or any office or neighborhood gossip.

Someone who has too much time on their hands, in spite of the fact that they should very well be minding their own.

Busybody ALWAYS claim they are busy, and often act overwhelmed, to try to detract from their busybodiness and sneakiness. You are to think they are too busy to try to mind others business. They are often inappropriate and lack boundaries. They will take as much as you are willing to give them. They usually lack class (independent of money - but they usually lack that too).

They are not usually very accurate, if at all. Often times, they resort to making up stories so that what they are saying will sound more enticing.

Noticing something one time only is not being a busy body. Asking questions about it could be construed about being a busy body. Noticing a neighbors comings and goings (consequently, not noticing break ins of that property) is definitely being a busybody.

No one likes a busy body.

You should have said, "was he with the blond bimbo again. Im'ma kill him!"

Yes, she's a busybody.

Nothing's worse than a busybody "co-worker" trying to get all up in your personal business. Eww!

Nah, she should have used that info against her coworker by telling her boss that the coworker was at Target in the middle of the day. What was she doing there instead of working at the office? I wonder if she does it often? Is she including her personal errands as part of her time entries? Then spread that around the office. Teach her to keep shit to herself.

A busybody is someone who enjoys getting involved in other peoples' business. Basically, everyone on DCUM.

Maybe the co worker just thought it was funny she ran into your husband and thought she'd tell you

The busybody part was when she asked if the OP "knew that her husband was there."

My sister. If she handled her own house business instead of mine she might be happier.

Bet on it, anyone minding everyone's business has a shitty life.

I think gossipers are busybodies. People who feel the need to either (1) fill the silence by talking about others, or (2) get some personal attention by talking about others.

Op here. I'm a nurse so I was at work and when I checked my phone on my break and saw that she had called. I called back because I thought she wanted to know something hospital related. She worked the night shift last night and I was on day shift. Another coworker said that "Larla" is a busybody.

My mother! One time she tried to tell me gossip about my cousins MIL. Who gives two craps? I hadn't even ever met my cousins wife much less her mother.

A busybody loves to start drama. Avoid these types of women at all costs.
