Yes, your coworker fits that description.
My guess is she's looking for attention/gratitude/recognition or at the least, a reaction. The best way to ward her off is to not give her that. What you said sounds perfect to me. Completely blase and matter of fact. That said, it would have been hilarious if you said (in a totally bored and matter of fact voice), "Yeah. He's f*cking the check out guy from aisle five. I'm cool with it."
BTW, I admit I use DCUM as an outlet for my busybody tendencies. Better here than IRL, right?
