I had an awful week, and now have a stomach bug, and all I want to do is be under a blanket on the sofa and have someone take care of me. The though of all food is revolting right now except for oatmeal, and it's making me think of the oatmeal my mom used to make for me when I was little. She made a small well in the center and put a pat of butter there, then poured milk in a ring around the edge of the bowl, and sprinkled raisins and a little sugar over the top. I'm having my oatmeal plain with a little cinnamon right now, but I would love a bowl of my mom's oatmeal.
How do you eat your oatmeal? |
| Cook the oatmeal with milk, then sprinkle crasins, raisins, chopped walnuts, sliced almonds, chopped hazlenut on top. Sometimes I add a banana or a tablespoon of chia seeds. |
|
I like old-fashioned oats cooked not too long, seasoned with a little salt, and then a bit of whole milk added once the oatmeal's in the bowl.
Hope you're feeling better soon! |

I'm eating oatmeal right now! I mix mine with a homemade cinnamon sugar and spice mixture, cook it, add almond milk, and whatever toppings I have on hand: sliced almonds, fruit, flax or chia seeds. I add a scoop of protein powder sometimes too.
My mom used to put a small scoop of jam at the bottom of the bowl, and then cover it with the oatmeal, just like her mom used to do for her

| Scottish oats cooked in 1/2 the amount of recommended water til soft, then add milk to thicken and finish cooking. Stir in a little salt and 2 tsp of brown sugar. Pour in bowl, pour a small amount of heavy cream around the outside of the bowl. It sweetens the oatmeal somehow and makes it so creamy. Sometimes I like thinly sliced bananas in there! |
| I hate oatmeal, but my kids like it made with milk and brown sugar |

1. Steel cut oats made with milk and sliced bananas
2. Steel cut oats made with milk, a few thin oats of butter melted in, more milk, cinnamon sprinkled on top. |
| I'm not a big fan of oatmeal generally, but I love it cooked in a crockpot overnight with raisins, cinnamon and a little cream added to the water. I serve it with maple syrup. |
| With milk and scoop of butter.I like my oatmeal salty. |
| I like steel cut oats cooked slowly on the stove, then adding either banana or raisins and a little cinnamon and brown sugar. If I use raisins I add them while the oats are cooking so they are plump and soft. Banana slices get added at the end. |

I have two favorites - try to keep it healthy so no butter, etc.
Steel cut oats with frozen peaches and blueberries, cinnamon, a little vanilla cooked in the crockpot on low overnight. Delicious and filling. Sometimes add ground flax. For stovetop, I use old fashioned rolled oats, water and slice a banana in there. Stir frequently to break up the banana. Tastes whipped. I love this with a tablespoon of peanut butter for added flavor and protein. |
Cooked with water, then add walnuts, honey, cinnamon, sliced banana, and almond milk. I eat this every morning to keep up my milk supply .

I make a variation of this, but with half the sugar and dried fruit and nuts added. Yum! It freezes well too. |
