No DC to NY service on Amtrak today.
That's OK, I guess. It's not like these are important cities or anything. Is there anything that functions well under this administration? They want more and more of our money, and there is not a single thing that works well. I thought we'd have improved public works but our infrastructure just totally sucks. |

That's it. Next election I'm voting for President Mussolini. '
Edit: I forgot. #ThanksObama |
| Amtrak runs independently. The administration picks the board and Congress funds it, but it's not a government agency. |
| Your absolutely right, train service was never interrupted during the Reagan or Bush presidencies. Obama should have been out on the rails last night checking the infrastructure. |
| No big government! Cut taxes and stop spending! Hey... how come none of our infrastructure works right? |
I like you. |

| Conservatives suffer from a complete mental disconnect and inability to understand how things work. They have no problem with spending trillions on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without raising taxes and then wonder why it left us with trillions of new debt. They have no problem giving the wealthiest Americans and corporations another trillion in huge tax breaks and subsidies and then wonder why there's a budget shortfall and instead place blame everywhere else. And, they say "Obama's anti-business" when the DJIA is doing better than ever. And, they say "Obama hates the rich and is hurting the fossil fuel industry" even as the biggest fossil fuel magnates in the country, the Koch brothers, have doubled their personal wealth under his administration. It's as though the logic processing function in the conservative brain doesn't even work, they are incapable of thinking for themselves, all they are capable of doing is repeating talking points. |
| Well, if either kind of administration would put a priority on infrastructure repairs and upgrades, maybe there wouldn't be tons of overhead wires to fall on tracks. |
| Honestly, there's not political will to improve our rail systems because most people use, and are wedded to, their cars. Amtrak is the low man on the rail totem pole, which reflects its support in the US. |

How quickly people forget - or have somehow managed to have information scrambled up or blanked out of their minds altogether by partisan media. At the beginning of Obama's term, he asked for spending on infrastructure, and Congress appropriated hundreds of billions of dollars, which went toward over 250,000 successfully completed infrastructure projects around the country, from roads and bridges, to sewer treatment plants, and so on. It was called ARRA and it had a degree of transparency and accountability UNPRECEDENTED in American history -> http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/default.aspx
But, much more is needed. Just check the American Society of Civil Engineers Scorecard - it improved a bit with ARRA but much more still needs to be done. Congress needs to end its perverse obsession with Grover Norquist, it needs to get its head wrapped around proper national priorities (instead of idiocy like "Defense of Marriage Act" and "waste a 53rd vote trying to repeal ACA") and instead start taking care of America and the infrastructure needs of the whole of the American people, not just of the wealthiest few. |
| Oh my lord - are you seriously blaming Obama for some train delays?? |
Please try doing a little reading instead of just the talking points. http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/040214-695716-democrat-political-donations-outstrip-republicans.htm |
No fan of the Obama administration but this is stupid. Wires fell on the tacks. Sometimes things just happen. And look into how Amtrak is actually trying to operate. http://www.amtrak.com/ccurl/333/30/Amtrak-Transportation-Funding-for-21st-Century-ATK-14-005%20(2).pdf |
Dead link, perfect analogy to lack of progress under this administration. Would rather just have Republicans and lower taxes than Democrats who promise, tax us like crazy, and deliver next to nothing. |
