Mundo Verde Waitlist

My child has a low 20s waitlist number for K. In the past, how far down the waitlist has MV reached?

TIA!

Generally not that far, but I don't know if that information is that helpful now. The waitlist will move slower, but there are more slots. I wouldn't count on it. Sorry.

I'm not sure why the 400 times this has been posted hasn't been helpful to you.

There are new slots for K this year - I think about 25, that means that there may be more movement this year. I know a couple of people who are planning to turn it down for K. It's possible you may get in before school starts.

Normally, I would not respond to such a nasty post. However, I'm going to make an exception in your case. You should know, Ms. Congeniality, that I searched the archives before posting my question, and I could only find threads that addressed past MV lotteries. Obviously, your ability to find evidence of the "400 times this has been posted," clearly demonstrates your superior searching skills...we should all be so fortunate

So, thanks for nothing!

Thanks, this is helpful!

Am I missing something? It appears the only thing Mundo Verde has released is the waitlist, not the accepted list, right? It would be very useful for people to also see how many sections of each grade are being planned for next year, and how many of the accepted children had sibling or founders preference so that waitlisted families can be more realistic about their chances. Is the "winners" list elsewhere on their website? And sorry to complain, because at present, MV has actually been the most transparent school of any that participated in the unified lottery. We need data!

Is the wait list expected to move at all before May 1? Wondering if there is an internal deadline for current families to submit paperwork. Thanks.

The deadline for matched families is May 1, like all other schools. I would guess that the only way the WL moves is if matched students opt out early by enrolling elsewhere and notifying MV they're giving up their spot(s). Which would, of course, be awesome and gracious for the rest of the families. (See other thread on this topic generally.)

I believe there are two sections of K, with 44 total spots. Don't know about the other grades. Presumably most current pre-K families will stay on, thus accounting for 22 of those spots. Some of them may move on, however, thus opening up a few places. And some newly matched students may pass (see 10:45), opening up a few more spots. And some families may enroll and decide not to stick it out in the fall, thus opening up a small number of additional spots. (This last point says nothing about MV; just a general observation. For example, I was enrolled in an immersion kindergarten way back in the day and lasted about two weeks before my family pulled me --- couldn't say why, except to speculate that, being non-native-speaking, perhaps I didn't handle the baptism-by-fire terribly well.)

There will be one additional kindergarten class next year. I would be very surprised if even a single kindergarten spot was taken by someone who already has sibling or founders preference, as those children could have been in the school already if the parents had desired. Some spaces may be given to siblings of other accepted students, but that doesn't happen as much for kindergarten as for ps3 or ps4, however, it may more this year as there are more upper grades who may have younger siblings. There is no way to know exactly at this point whether some kindergarten children will leave due to the location, but I would be surprised if it were more than 2 or 3. For now, I think you just have to hold on and wait to see what will happen. Good luck.

This is not a MV question necessarily, but I have wondered about a weird scenario: what about a family who gets matched for pre-K three with one child who also has a not-at-MV K child? Wouldn't that family get sib preference, and presumably at least consider enrolling both children? Assuming I am right, maybe some sib-pref kids on MV's WL chart fit this pattern.

Nevermind, there is no need to speculate, as they have posted the list: http://mundoverdepcs.org/lottery-results/

Two years ago, we were 25 on the MV pre-K waitlist. This was also an expansion year, when a whole new Pre-K class was added.

We got a call -- and took the spot -- in late Sept.
