Loudoun County has already changed its course pathways to match the new plans. They were not required to do this, as Fairfax has not done so I believe.

This doesn’t match with a Facebook post I saw from a lcps school board member. He said everyone would take algebra is eighth grade.

That is not algebra in 8th grade. What they are doing is splitting up algebra and geometry into multiple items, covering them over multiple grades, including prior to grade 8.
Look at the chart, they are OK with people taking essential concepts 8 without taking prealgebra. This is because essential concepts 8 is equivalent to prealgebra, while 9 is equivalent to algebra.
An earlier version of the pathway had kids taking foundations of algebra in 6th next year able to advance to prealgebra in 7th and then algebra in 8th and stay on an advanced track. This new chart takes away that pathway.

Sorry, but nova will never vote for a statewide GOP candidate. There are other issue at stake. GOP will NEVER have the governorship in VA again.

They will not if they keep trying to put in trump style Rs. If they would run a moderate though while Ds push this - I would consider switching.

Ok I get the anger, but how did we get to a point where Rs are the pro-science party, and do you really think that’s a sustainable solution? Poll most scientists and professional mathematicians and you will find vast majority Ds. There must be some way to leverage this fact.

Neither side is pro science. Each bases positions much more off of what outcome is desired. It’s just that on this topic Ds want equity more than they want to cultivate the kids who will be the leading edge of our math and science force. Plenty of other issues where the R position is likewise driven by dogma not data.

Of course they are not. The actual equity problem is that Black and Hispanic kids are under-identified for advanced math. That's the problem to fix. VAs solution is to instead just not let any kids pursue math at a faster, more advanced pace.
