Emory, Gatech, USC, NYU, Tufts, WashU, Boston College, Georgetown, Berkeley, UCLA...all are great. Which ones are better than others? Depends mostly on what you like. Lots of different opinions.

Top 5 which of those?
Why is Top 5 the cut off? GT isn't Top5 in much outside of engineering.
But Nursing, Physical therapy , Physicians Assistance, African American studies, Biomedical engineering, public health, Biostatistics

Remove Rutgers too which was ranked in the 60s, 70s every single year when things were sane
Rutgers is fine. As is UMD and Ohio State.
A little insulting to UMD to group it with those two schools, no?
I think that Georgia Tech should be insulted that Emory is ranked higher overall, making it the highest-ranked university in Atlanta. GT stands out as a truly elite engineering institution. It is ranked higher than any Ivy League school in engineering and graduates more engineers than all the Ivies combined. I will concede that Emory bests GT in graduating expensively educated students and likely provides a strong liberal arts education, but it's just a school. GT's impact in engineering and technology is unparalleled.
Emory is the only prestigious school in Georgia, and GT isn't better than Emory at all the STEM fields just Engineering, and Physics, and Emory doesn't have Engineering so that's not even a comparison.
Emory is ranked higher than GaT for undergrad and graduate school. So those STEM programs aren't helping GT all that much.
Emory has higher test scores, a lower acceptance rate, a students from better and wealthier backgrounds, and better placement in fields where prestige actually matters like Finance, law, even computer science ( Emory grads have higher salaries).
Emory grads have an median post grad salary 82k, while GT is 84k.
That's with Emory not having an engineering school, and having to rely on business and nursing grads. GT seemingly is underperforming for a STEM school when it comes to salary.

What does it mean that Emory has student from "better and wealthier backgrounds"? I understand wealthier but I'm not sure what is a "better" background.
Big 3 private, Westminster Atlanta etc.
And there is the reason why I chose to sent me children to public schools.
Well...don't dish what you cant take. GT booster had no problem beating their chest comparing it to Yale.
There’s a notable difference between debating which college is superior and suggesting that students from specific private high schools come from inherently "better" backgrounds. I won’t pass up the chance to call out snobbery and elitism, which seems to be the real reason so many on DCUM dislike seeing public universities ranked highly. Let’s be honest: for many, an expensive education from an institution that makes students navigate an arduous admissions process, serves as a status symbol. The prestige of schools like Tufts or Emory feels tarnished when a large public university, that is accessible to more than just a select few from underprivileged or middle-class backgrounds, is ranked higher.
x1000000
Sorry, but in my circles, TUFTS or Emory would be a huge drop off…
Exactly! These poser schools cater to those who can’t get into elite institutions but still want an expensive education with a veneer of exclusivity. By the way, check out the law school rankings. Emory's law school currently sits eleven spots behind Alabama. I bet you can't say the same for Cal, UCLA, or even Ohio State.
Emory is T25. The ones your children can't get into, and the one yall are upset that Gatech isn't ranked higher than... But now its not elite lol...Pick one narrative.
GT is elite at engineering and a better school overall than Emory. I think that was the argument.
Can you explain why Emorys median salary is 82k without an engineering school, but GT's is only 84k as a STEM school? Is Emory overperforming or Gatech underperforming?
Who cares they are both mid-range schools. The salary your kid gets will not have anything to do with the median.
This is peak coping as if we can't read the past comments in this thread. Again, Emory is T25. Thats very high for mid range. Anyway are you going to answer the question? Half of Georgia techs so called elite engineering grads are making less than 80k? Why is that? Why are Emory's humanities grads doing almost as well?
According to the College Scorecard, humanities majors from Emory are not performing well in terms of earnings. However, Emory’s largest cohort of graduates is in nursing, and they earn an average of $88,000, which is strong. Other high-earning fields at Emory include business and economics. Interestingly, while humanities graduates from Emory struggle, nursing graduates from several other schools in Georgia seem to earn even more. In comparison, Georgia Tech appears to have stronger outcomes on the College Scorecard overall than Emory
+1 pp, but it's because Emory is more prestigious simple. If Emory had an engineering school, even a small one, it would eclipse GTs numbers fairly easily. Considering how the tech industry is going, and the fact that Emory is only 2k behind, they will pass GT soon. Which is bad for their brand cause their will be nothing GT realistically has over Emory at that point. I remember when GT grads make 10-15k more than everyone else in Georgia, not anymore. And I went to UGA , so no dawg in this fight.

Emory gets a ton of money due to NIH. Yikes.
All universities get a ton of money from the federal government…so it’s a collective Yikes.

Can you compare, GT's salary to other STEM schools? 84k does seem on the lower side, and I know MIT and CMU is higher. I can't think of anymore STEM collegs.
Almost all colleges are STEM colleges, just to differing degrees.

I think you're right. Median starting salary for WashU is 85k, and they have a small to medium sized engineering school so safe to say either prestige really matters or GT is underperforming for some reason.

Yet the ivies with data separated out for school of engineering show average starting salaries of above 100k, just like MIT and CMU do, the companies that hire ivy engineers on average are more prestigious, there are more startups founded by ivy engineers than GA TECH despite GT graduating more total engineers. Some single ivies eclipse GT in this. PhD placemtn in to Engineering is also much better from the ivies with E-schools than GT. Ivy engineers do better in every metric; rankings do not compare metrics such as outcomes, they compare % on need aid and other BS that does not relate to quality of education

I searched for salary for just computer science grads at Emory and GT, it's actually surprising. For the ivys you can argue location as to why they make more but this doesn't make much sense to me.
