GDS high school

They make bigots uncomfortable.

Who gives a f*ck?

The issue here is that the school admin is poorly functioning and non-transparent. What flags they fly are irrelevant.

Feel free to do Johnny’s travel soccer elsewhere.

If you see someone complaining about DEI, assume they are a troll or unhinged. Either way, don't entertain the racist.

Anytime someone defends any program or person as above critique, know that they are a blind devotee or gaslighting. Either way, don't entertain the propagandist.

Because it never, ever works the other way around...right?

Well, as an actual parent of the school, I sometimes give a f*ck. It's a reminder of where the DEI department invests their time and resources. It's a visual reminder that blm and lgbtqia+ concerns are the programming priority at GDS. I wish that they would add other flags for other groups (promoting anti-islamophobia, anti-semitism, for instance) or take those two flags down.

As PPs have pointed out, there is no appetite for diverse thinking and creating a safe DEI space (literally and figuratively) for students outside of these two groups represented by the flags.

I'm an actual parent of the school too and don't read nearly as much into the flags. It's not a zero-sum game.

There are many affinity groups at the school that fall outside the two categories you mentioned, and my kids feel like they have a safe space in the ones that they've either joined or taken part in sponsored activities.

Huh? Not at all. My point is not to be absolutist.

No, you lose all credibility claiming that only one side has the absolutists.

I made no such claim. I said "any program or person."

In this case, it's a few DEI disciples that are saying that any critique of DEI cannot be legitimate. That's obtuse. If there are examples of someone saying "nothing about the DEI movement is valid," that, too, would be obtuse.

Many posts coming from fellow GDS parents in this thread are nuanced, but there are too many anti-DEI/wokeness threads elsewhere on DCUM to count.

I am the parent of a junior at GDS, and just can’t across this thread with 26 pages. Would anyone care to summarize the issue, presenting both sides fairly? It would help me for sure but perhaps would help the many participants so far.

You can't take 10m to read the pages yet want someone else to take time out of their day to write a balanced and fair draft for you?

I’ve never met a nice kid at GDS. ever.

My goodness. What is wrong with you for writing something mean like this? Either you are a kid, and hopefully will mature. Or you are a sad excuse for an adult. Do better.
