The "start ES first" solution has already been assessed and rejected, for reasons that are just as valid now as they were 11 years ago. |
Boy did you read me wrong! I’m in favor of a later start time for high school students. I even posted an alternate suggestion earlier in this thread. I’m just pointing out why you can’t just swap elementary and high school start times. We don’t have enough buses to transport all of the elementary students at the same time. We’ve staggered the start times for elementary schools and buses do multiple runs for elementary schools. How would you accommodate multiple elementary schools runs prior to the middle school and high school routes and have no schools start before 8:00? |
They will not. This is MCPS where the mantra is “we’ve always done it this way”. They still make teachers use paper time sheets! They are stuck in the dark ages |
So your argument that you're putting forth is that we MUST acquiesce to your proposal of shifting start times back, even though you acknowledge it might not have the advertised benefits you're crowing about, and you can't articulate any meaningful answers to the logistical and regional logistical and resource hurdles we face, because you said so? You think that's a compelling argument? Don't run for political office. You suck at persuasion and engendering buy-in from stakeholders. And I hope you're not a leader in whatever you do for a living if this is how you lobby for a cause or position. |
DP. You know not everyone is trying to run for political office. What an unnecessary statement, PP. |
You just want to ignore science. Got it. |
It was addressed years ago. It wasn't "settled". |
As far as MCPS is concerned (and many of us parents who are tired of the wasted time and resources addressing the same thing over and over again), it IS settled |
Kids graduate and move on and new kids enter the school system. Nothing is settled for eternity. |
Nothing is settled. This issue will keep resurfacing until something is done. It is that important. |
Then bring forth some substance in your recommendations. You all have localities where it's been implemented. There should be a plethora of best practices, accountability measures and implementation processes to share that we can examine and see if they make sense for MCPS. |
The poster you are replying to is almost certainly a lawyer who gets off on arguing with people on topics that she understands only at a surface level, thinking that her unnecessarily verbose and jargon-y language will disguise the fact that she is really not comprehending the issue, and when she gets pushback from people who are more knowledgeable than she is (and therefore see her BS for what it is) she gets hyper defensive, loses composure, and that’s how you end up with classic playground insults like “Don’t run for political office!” |
The constraints remain the same, though. |
Something was done about it. Because you find it inconvenient, you are ignoring this. |
Yes, science says all kids need sleep. Stop cherry pickingyour facts and learn to set you clocks ahead or parent. |
