I arrived in 1991 and spent years fighting and then winning against crime and stupid. This city was a dump and dangerous and then it changed. The drift back to stupid can be checked and it will but only if it’s an all hands on deck effort.

I am one of those who believe “root causes of poverty” rather than enforcement needs to be addressed first. Lots of cities lost people during the pandemic because they realized being locked down in a small apartment for days on end was stifling.

I don't like the idea of the news and media trying to ensure panic.

For those of us who are true city dwellers, DC will be fine. Cities have crime, but crime is also rising in red states as well. When the cost of living goes up, wages go down, poor people will commit crimes to survive because of high inflation. I think the actual war in Ukraine has driven inflation up more than the fact that the U.S. is sending weapons and other aid there. If you've got a problem with the cost of living going up related to Ukraine, maybe take it up with the jerk who invaded Ukraine almost a decade ago and then tried to finish the job last year.
