If the D and R parties truly feel threatened by this 3rd party movement, there is an easy fix. Hogan describes the scenario for which No Labels may actually field a candidate in very plain language. If, come next spring, America's nightmare scenario of Trump and Biden being the nominees comes to fruition, it's a real possibility No labels will field a candidate simply due to demand from the American public for something better. If the Ds and Rs don't want to face competition from a 3rd party, and of course they don't, they just need to nominate something more appetizing than the lunatic orange old man and the elderly man.

So no labels can stamp their feet and have their silly tantrum and help get trump elected to protest that trump was one the nominees? That makes no sense. They help trump so they are pro trump.

If the Rs and Ds do no better than Trump vs Biden 2 in 2024, No Labels will seriously consider fielding a candidate. If the R or D parties nominate a normal candidate with a respectable favorbility rating amongst voters, they are unlikely to have a need to run. Not exactly rocket science here. If the Ds nominate a Bill Clinton or the Rs nominate a Mitt Romney, we won't have a No Labels candidate. It doesn't have to be both parties nominating someone different.

What about no labels helping get trump elected do you not understand? Rationalize helping give trump a second term how ever you want, it still results in the election of trump again.

We are not idiots. Don't tell me you object to trump and then help give him the white house.

If No Labels convinced Joe Manchin to run, then I don’t disagree. But do we know this is true for sure in the case of a lifelong Republican like Larry Hogan?

What difference does it make? The third part candidate does not win. They serve to assist one of the other candidates.

Again, they only plan to run if Trump AND Biden are the nominees. If Trump and Biden become the nominees with no viable 3rd party candidate, we'd be looking at the weakest presidential field in the history of our country and what makes you so sure the 3rd party has zero chance of winning in this unprecedented circumstance? No one with an IQ over 80 is voting for Trump in 2024 period. That gives pretty good odds to any viable candidate running against him. We just need someone with less obvious weaknesses running against him and we should be less concerned of where that candidate comes from. You can't rely on the recent failures of 3rd parties as predictors of what will happen in 2024 because our current political situation is far, far different from anything experienced our lifetimes.

They have zero chance of being anything but spoilers

And tell me, while you're so up on No Labels - what are their actual positions? Can you name three things they stand for, other than being not Trump or not Biden? I bet not! They're a cipher, there to project whatever you want onto them - and take your money.

For all of our sake, let's hope we don't see a Trump vs. Biden rematch in 2024 so we don't have to worry about any potential negative impact from these No Label folks. If we do have a Trump vs Biden rematch, the numbers show that most American voters would appreciate another option to consider. It is what it is. If you're an R or D party staffer or campaign worker whining about this 3rd party threat, get over it and become open to applying for work elsewhere.

Of course most voters are going to select an unknown third option. Because when they make that selection, it’s based on this mythological notion that the third option is better than the ones running. Put an actual name to than third option and the polling will look very different.

You make it sound like all 3rd party candidates are unknown or have no real political experience. We could get someone like Manchin or Lieberman (someone like him not really him) who have held office.

I didn’t say that at all. I said those polls allow voters to put a mythological third party candidate into that third spot, and typically one that is more preferable than the stays quo. So they more readily select that option.

Put up a poll of Biden v Trump v Manchin. Your poll results will be very different from the “unknown third option” and probably not in a good way.

My point was that a third party candidate won’t necessarily be a complete unknown. I wasn’t suggesting those people literally.

Personally, i believe both of the current major parties need to fade away. Their time is over. They keep this country in stuck in the same old ruts.

I get your point. My point is we know Manchin and he isn’t a viable candidate.

Look I get what you are trying to argue. My kids do the same. But I lived through 2000, the fallout of which we are a still experiencing. And then 2016 with Bernie. And because of that, many of us will never take a chance on third party/disruptor candidate in an election as important as this one. Maybe when Trump is gone and Republicans have their period of reckoning. But not this election. And definitely not for a party funded by unhappy billionaires. Sorry.

To each their own. That’s the beauty of living in the US, we can vote as we like. I may be a little older than you. I’ve argued since college and on this board that RvW needed to be codified by Congress. No one listened and they didn’t think it would ever happen. I moved to DC where rich democrats put down and dismissed Midwestern / rust belt urban democrats. Disgusting. I was shocked by what happened in 2000. I met Al Gore (funnier than his reputation led on) but after that the Democratic party became even less recognizable. GOP became filled with more religious zealots and democrats became more elitist.

What have you personally done to make abortion legislation happen in Congress other than come here, as you do so often do, complaining that Democrats never get a bill passed to legalize abortion across the nation.(note you never call out Republicans for failing to do the exact same thing)

Ps the gop is filled with elitist billionaires too. Why don’t you complain about that ?

You can’t flounce in and try to win President. It just hasn’t worked that way for over a hundred years.

No labels are a bunch of billionaires upset that Biden may make them pay the taxes they owe. They are an unserious “party.” If they truly believed US needed another political party (besides Libertarian and Green) they should start running candidates in local elections. But they are not serious.

Which reminds me, what ever happened to Andrew Yang’s Forward Party? He promised to start local. Guess that grift ran out too.

This is just a tactic to try to swing the election the to the result preferred by this party's big right wing donors. This is not a serious attempt to actually win the presidency as these donors clearly understand.

That's what the naysayers that claim a 3rd party has no chance fail to understand. We are in unprecedented times. In none of our lifetimes have we ever had a situation where two presidents, an incumbent and an ex-president with historically low approval ratings, are likely to be nominated by their parties for a rematch of the most recent election. It's a mind-boggling predicament. How can we not strive to come up with something better considering how unpopular these two are?

Wrong no labels. Third parties never win. The goal of this party is not to win. The proper label is "no Chance".
