Thankfully my kid had him last year so hopefully won't for 8Th grade. Or maybe he'll make good on his threat to leave for greener pastures.

PP here. I saved all the posts. Just needed to have proof of what at least one of the teachers is really like.

Didn't need this thread to know what Hardy parents were like but it's certainly a plus!

It doesn't really matter what the parents are like does it? I would like to state here that I'm on the teacher's side on this, always on teacher's side in every matter. But you need to be honest here. You as a teacher work for the school district and are, in fact, paid by property taxes collected in the city. To think that you don't work for the parents may be directly correct, but you've seen what a loud group of parents can do. I wouldn't be so cavalier and arrogant to think it couldn't happen to you and you won't be sent back to a nail salon to earn a living.[b]

You seem very pro teacher yep.
I don't think parents realize how easy it is to move around in dcps. I could be hired tomorrow at ten different schools, with the same salary and fewer headaches from parents like thesw

I am very pro teacher. But I'm not pro-you, someone who is spouting drunken nonsense acting like you are. Lots of DCPS has issues. Some schools are filled with parents who aren't even involved and teachers have a real fear for their safety. There's no good solution here besides probably finding a school district that allows you to be who you want to be. Part of your job does in fact mean you have to have parental support. If you lose that because of your reactions on this board, and trust me that people do know who you are, you may find yourself out of the game entirely. Try to be smarter than you're being right now.

OK, but I'd argue that you're potentially trading in current headaches for others. Going from one school where lots of parents are very engaged and the students are prepared to learn to a school with unengaged parents and students who are grade levels behind, comes with a different set of headaches. Everything from principal expectations for teachers for tutoring or extra curriculars to teacher parking could be trading one set of headaches for another. Your work commute.

DCPS realized they were sitting on a ticking time bomb and decided to act. They knew the stories were true; the records checked out.

And if your child was spared, like mine, you still had to deal with lagging academics and grotesquely uneven teaching quality.

There was scarcely a single thing working in that school this year.

This is completely indefensible yet we have self-proclaimed Hardy teachers on here not only defending such behavior but asserting that those parents who aren’t willing to tolerate it are a “clan” of racists? I for one will be very interested to see which Hardy teachers decide to protest their dissatisfaction with PJ’s removal next week, but will not be holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

Again this is about race, power, and privilege. It’s about a “clan” of upper northwest parent causing hysteria and mobilizing like a mob. We live in America. We have seen this before. Much of what is being said about PJ and what took or is taking place at Hardy is simply not true. Yes, the school has issues and yes there is room for improvement. This os also true for all DCPS middle school— including Deal and Stuart Hobson. In fact, I challenge you to do a comparison of SH and Hardy and Deal. You will find very similar issues that DCPS middle schools. The issues are systemic and reflective of DCPS policies. What makes this a witch hunt and makes this about race is how this first year Black principal is being bullied and harassed by the Karens and Kens. If PJ was white this would be handled in a much different way. MCCray and Neal should be extremely concerned. This small group of very loud parents have the resources, time, privilege and complexion to make things happen. DCPS will of course pander to this group. I am sure IS Hughes was terrified that he would also raise the ire of said Karens and Kens. He went right along with it. Zero backbone to stand up to stand up for PJ and the kids of Hardy. What also makes this about race is the fact that DCPS is removing PJ yet schools across the district are having similar issues. Only the schools with privileged loud mouth parents matter. This is race and class.

Why this is about race— white schools and white administrators and white teachers not held to the same standards. The Hardy community and DCPS selected a first year young Black principal. They knew this was his first rodeo. The way he was treated by this group of terrorist is unacceptable. Only the kids will be impacted on Monday. Congratulation to the rabid PTO groups for pushing this man out of his job, destabilizing the school community even further, and reminding the entire city how race really works in chocolate city. Also congratulation on the new principal. Hopefully he will bow his head, not look you all in the eye and address you all as sir and mam.

This entire post sounds like someone asked chat GPT, "Give me a couple of paragraphs of cliché "white privilege" stuff complete with name calling using 'Karen'. Include whataboutism and also include deflection with references to other schools, even though I have no evidence that the same things happened at those other schools."

If you think white parents are going to stop advocating for their kids' education because you call them names, you badly misread your audience.

No one believes that the racist will stop being racist. No one believes the privileged will give up their privilege. This is why we continue to mobilize and fight racism. Stay tuned.

You would rather an ineffectual leader remain to prove some principle than kids get a quality education. Got it.

They are asking for fantasy world. They want the resources, financial support and student demographic that comes with UMC students but none of the engagement and demands that come along with that population.

The CSP goals were modified to fit the data last school year as well. The IS that was at Hardy last year was way more supportive than the IS that is there now. There was an MOY step back meeting where several teachers were involved. Action steps were created. There needed to be a strong leader (principal) who took the suggestions and action steps by the horns and take action. That did not happen. There is a amazing math teacher that pushed back on the crazy CSP goals for math this year due to the new, terrible math curriculum, and because the new goal for this year did not match where we were last year. I absolutely believe in growth, but it needs to be reasonable. DCPS has changed their math curriculum at least 5 times within the last decade. Kids are still experiencing pandemic learning loss. Trying to learn a new way of doing math with this weird curriculum has been hard on many kids. I'm thankful to the parents who have invested in their kids and sought to get them tutoring help. Though it is shocking, I am thankful for the parents for advocating for their kids. The reason a third AP was hired was so the recently departed principal could continue to sit in his office and do nothing. Thank you parents. Thank you.

I hope these are not real teachers on here posting because their comments are pretty shocking and unprofessional. Sometimes fake posters claim to be teachers. I’m sorry for the bad year experienced by Hardy students and I hope next year is much better. I teach HS and students coming from weak, chaotic middle school environments make our jobs so much harder. And cell phones need to be absolutely controlled in middle schools. Most teenagers need strict limits enforced as they cannot manage cell phone use by themselves. It is a huge problem at the high school level

+It is good to see that there are some normal sounding teachers in DCPS

The principal must have somehow gotten on the wrong side of the Chancellor. DCPS Central doesn’t care much about what parents think.

You think that only UMC parents have the right to make requests and be engaged okay

Do you really think this is what’s best for the school, to oust a principal with one month left? Why not just say his contract isn’t renewed for next year but let him finish the year? This new interim principal is just going to make teachers go to extra meetings to introduce himself, allow him to ‘learn the culture of the school’, etc. Nothing meaningful will happen.

Is it possible that it's just how teachers...feel? Not to go out on a limb here.
