Where do you send your kid to school?
I've been surprised by how few families that self-identify as mid-city go to DCPS schools. So, if you are from the downtown/mid-city area where are you sending (or now planning to send) your child to school? |
| where else do they send them privates somewhere? |
|
Almost all my friends send their kids to charter schools.
CM, IT, MV, LAMB, Cap City we represent most of the major schools. |
| When you moved there - what were your plans? |
Cap City and LAMB are pretty far from Downtown. |
| The only "downtown" DCPS is Thomson. Expand that radius a bit north and you'll have Seaton/Garrison/Ross/Francis-Stevens. What are your boundaries? |
| My son, age 7, has been attending the Capitol Hill Cluster School (Peabody and Watkins campuses) since Pre-K/4; luckily, we got in via the lottery, and have been quite happy there. However, I learned just yesterday that, quite incredibly, my son has "won" a 2nd grade spot at Two Rivers via this year's lottery (they say that, statistically, it's easier to get into Harvard), so he'll be attending there in the Fall. A family one street over from us have two children attending Two Rivers as well. |
Do you live on the Hill? |
|
We're zoned for Thomson but send our kid to a charter that's close now but is moving next year. We are on the waitlist for Garrison, but hoping to stay at the charter (their location is still up in the air and so we wanted a local option just in case.)

Inbounds for Thomson, but our child is in MV. I know two other MV children who are also inbounds for Thomson.
I moved here many years before I thought of having kids, but I love it, so I have no desire to leave the neighborhood, and lucky for me, the school is moving closer. |
| yes, lucky for you! |
Private school but we applied to YY which was our first choice and got in. |
I did two years of the reverse commute though without a problem, and I would have continued without complaint. |

Creative Minds - (slightly jealous of the MV poster). Love my school, don't love the commute.
I love my neighborhood and can't imagine living anywhere else. |
| Our child was just accepted to Francis-Stevens, so we're going there, unless she spends another year at daycare, with which we are happy. |
