Monthly spending on food

Anonymous
Our little family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids under 4) spends an average of $1100-$1200 every month on groceries and eating out. Is this in line with the other families in the area? Just seems eating out/taking out each time is easily $50 a pop.

We probably spend around $700/month for a family of 4 (kids are 6 and 3) but we rarely eat out. In fact, we're trying to spend less than what we are but it's tough.

We spend about 200-225 per week on groceries, mainly organic, and produce (not tons of meat although some). We go out about 1-2 times a week, i'd guess about 150/wk but that would be a high estimate, some weeks its only 75 on meal out. SO i think we are similar to OP... Kids are age 5 and 7, prep bfast, lunch and dinner at home mainly unless we eat out as a fam. 200x4 is 800 plus 150x4 is 600 so we are at 1400.

Max...$800 a month, family of 5, 2 adults, 3 kids (girls, 14, 12, 10). One serious athlete, all good eaters.
The kids and I eat every single meal from home. I pack lunches and cook dinner every night. We may have Chipolte once a month or so if we are super busy.
Take out is a serious rip off and the food is never as good or plentiful as meals cooked at home.

I never do coupons but do Peapod and generally get most items on sale.

We eat really well.

About $150 a week for family of 3. But we also make our own breakfasts/lunches/dinners at home.

We order out and/or eat out as a family about once or twice a week which generally runs us about $75-$100. Once or twice a month DH and I will go out with friends or on a solo date night and that runs us much higher.

600-700$, family of 5---->2 adults, 1 teenager, 2 children: 5 years and 3 years old. We don't eat out much, home cooked meals.

We are the exact same except the kids are 2 and 4. $700. We eat out once a month (pizza Friday!) we could absolutely cut $$ by not buying organic and less expensive fruit.

Oh, we definitely spend at least $1200 a month though probably more (family of four). We have people over once or twice during the week for dinner and frequently have out-of-town guests so we're always spending tons on food.

We spend around $700 for the two of us. We buy mainly produce and fruit, with a smaller amount of meat.I cook most of our meals from scratch, and we almost never eat in restaurants or do takeout. If we do it's on the lines of Chipotle or Panda Express.
We also pack our lunches 4 days a week, and take snacks/fruit from home. I love to cook and try out new cuisines, so our grocery bill is a bit high I guess.

For a family of 3, I spend $150 a week on groceries and we eat out usually every other week for around $100 if you include drinks. So roughly $700 a month, but I'll say $800 just to be safe because we also usually throw one dinner party a month that ends up costing us extra in that week's groceries.

Both adults pack lunches every day and our kid eats lunch and snack at daycare.

We are easily $1000 groceries and $500 eating out each month for a family of five - no teenagers yet either! Probably actually slightly worse on eating out b/c both DH and I buy coffee and lunch at work most days. Ugh. That's a lot.

Two people - $1500 between groceries and eating out. Not including wine or drinks

4 of us (Kids are 4 and 6). We average $200/week for groceries--mostly but not all organic/natural. We pack all lunches and don't do Starbucks runs. We eat out about 1-2/month. It's too expensive for us to eat out and buy organic for home so I chose one. I always wonder what people spend on their budgets eating out. Not being snarky--you can spend your money how you want, but curious how much it is per week.
