Spirit Air? Yes, no, maybe?

I know nothing about Spirit Air but it has the most convenient flights for a business trip just for me between DC (BWI) and Dallas. Anyone have any experience with the airline?

They are the worst airline ever.

Also factor into the cost all their charges for luggage, including carry-ons.

They do have extra fees for a lot of things but I have liked them in the past. Flew to Costa Rica on them...

Noooooooooooo!

My husband flew them a few months ago without complaint. And he's a prima donna. I actually like that they have everything a la carte so you have a dirt cheap price. They have a checked bag and carry on fee so I'd probably only do it if I could fit my stuff into a back pack.

The only way I would fly Spirit is if they were the only airline with direct flights to my destination, and only in the "Big Front Seats" with extra legroom. They have the least legroom of all airlines I believe.

People bring livestock on the flight with them.

My flying experience with Spirit was the worst out of all the carriers I have flown domestically and overseas. I'm including Sabena BTW.

It is the second-worst airline I have flown.

I would only get on one of their planes again if I was drugged, like B.A. Barracus.

Why not? I assume it's not a turbo prop or small regional jet. http://spirit.zendesk.com/entries/21362092-What-are-the-size-and-weight-limits-for-bags-

The 1 free personal item is what can fit under the seat. If you have a small duffle or giant nylon purse you can stuff it with change of clothes, sandals, flat purse, laptop. I might fly allegiant and figured this out [stuff currently on floor by table].

Bag chart from travel nerd:

Many people board with oversize wheelies, totes, shopping bags-airlines have been very lax.

So might not be too bad flying a lower fare and paying per item. You are guaranteed space for your stuff.

I have heard too many horror stories-- like people being screwed over by flight cancellations with spirit not helping etc. No way would I fly them.

Spirit Air is by far the worst airline I've ever flown.

Perfectly fine. Get the big seat!
