I'm sure you'll get a lot of snarky "don't wear them!" posts, but I LOVE my Uggs. Wear the ankle ones with leggings, skinny jeans or just regular jeans overtop. Enjoy!

thanks!

Just an FYI... A friend who is from Australia recently told me that in Australia, when she was growing up, only the trashy, low class kids wore Uggs to school and typically with tight skinny jeans. The classic style Uggs are considered house slippers in Australia. Wearing them out of your home is tacky. Now, the snow-boots Uggs are a different story. Those are the ones with the heavier traction soles and they are made for outside in the snow. It made Australians laugh their butts off when celebrities in LA started wearing Uggs several years ago as a fashion statement.

I thought the schools in Australia had school uniforms.
Has this changed?

PP, perhaps your friend is right about how SHE thought of Uggs where she was from, but the reason people in LA started wearing them is b/c it caught on as a surfer trend. Surfers in Australia wore them after they got out of the water and then the LA surfers took notice.

10:14 is dead on.. And yes, Australian kids do generally have uniforms, but the older ones get "days off" from that sometimes.

My aussie hubbie would sooner let me wear leg warmers than a pair of uggs.

Leg warmers are in style, too. He has good taste!

I don't give a crap what Australians think. Anyone tries to mock my cozy, warm crocheted Ugg . . . can kiss off. I LOVE mine.

I'm Australian. Yes, you were a 'bogan' in the 70's and 80's if you wore ugg boots. Yes, the ankle ones were pretty much worn indoors only. And yes, we have school uniforms but for public (gov't) school it doesn't include footwear so many of us did wear our ugg boots to school. Like most things, though, they're now fashionable so don't worry about all of that. Saying that, I have the big snow-type ones and would find it hard to get over my stereotyped image to wear the ankle ones - except perhaps under jeans. But I'm sure some fashionable people are doing it!

Us Aussies would be really proud that the rest of the world love them if it wasn't for the fact that they're made in China now so we can't take credit!

Exactly. I am from LA and I got my first pair about 15 yrs ago when the trend first came around, (though they are the higher version, not at the ankle). They sat in my old room at my parent's house for years until the trend came back into style. Just got my 2nd pair. I LOVE UGGS!!!

My daughter complains when I wear the slipper style with socks (another faux pas she apparently doesn't know about is wearing them out of the house, but whatever, as she'd say). Doesn't stop me from wearing the socks.

will someone post a link to these marvelous boots? I'm looking but am not finding anything that is an "ankle" boot. Thanks!

Australia has temperate climate. No snow.
Only in some regions the weather goes below freezing during the coldest times.

So I would also wonder why someone would be wearing snow boots.
