| Our DS expects to hear from 7 schools in the next week -- five should be coming this Thursday? Anybody else out there is this place right now? |
| Oh ya. Expecting 4 this week. DD is stressing majorly. |
| OP here. It is so stressful for them. We went through this a couple of years ago with our first kid, and it was kind rough getting so many on the same day. At least our DS waiting now is into his safety, but I know he's hoping for a few more choices. He says he doesn't have a first choice because why set himself up for disappointment? Just hoping a few schools on his list say yes. |
|
Yes. Already heard from 5, heavy on the waitlists so far. 6 coming this week, but not optimistic about several of them.
Any hints on working the UVA waitlist? |
| Give them the opportunity to mull over their acceptances. They might announce "That's the one. I'm going there!!" but sometimes they change their minds. Let them know that's ok too. |
| Re: the UVA waitlist, I would engage your DC counselor on this, however not right away. Counselors will be too busy dealing with angry parents over UVA denials. Let things simmer down. |
Luckily we're in MD so UVA denials aren't taken quite as hard. But definitely need to talk to the counselor, although she's been only marginally helpful so far (heavy student load). We'll see how things go this week -always a chance for a miracle. Wait lists are tough - low chance of being admitted off them but still holds out the hope until June. |
| We are hoping DC has a couple of choices, and then we'll probably encourage him to visit the schools that are still possibilities. Our older kid did this, and we found that he saw the colleges in a whole different light the second time around. He could really picture himself at some schools more than others, and knowing the schools had already admitted him changed his perceptions of them too. |
| I thought most acceptances didn't come out until April 1st or so... are there some that come out in March? We're waiting on W&M and JMU, but don't have high hopes for either. |
| April 1 is the general deadline for most colleges, however many will come out this week. For example, all of the Ivies come out on March 27 this year. |
] Many came out last week, the rest of my DCs are this week. I think W&M is already out - I've seen people posting about it in other places. Not sure if they use a portal but maybe check the portal. Of the one's my DC applied to all but 2-3 use portals or email rather than mail. UVA was Friday afternoon. |
| We are waiting. We've already heard back from several schools (denied at three, accepted to four), so this week we'll all be really anxious. She's taken the rejections pretty well, since I've drilled in her head that the worst they can is no, and it's not the end of the world when they do. |
W&M isn't out yet, or at least, not Regular decision. They say by April 1st. |
| DD also has gotten several wait lists (from schools where statistically she falls in the 25-50th %). We'll be doing accepted student days (at "safety" schools) the first 2 weekends in April. It seems like the kids put so much time in the application process (starting from junior year SATs) and yet there's very little time from their last admit/deny decision til the May 1st deposit date. |
I totally agree! My DD has been accepted to 3, rejected at 2, wait listed at 1 and still waiting to hear from 3…it'll be a long week! And then we need to scramble to visit a few of the schools so she can make her decision! I agree with the above poster that I feel like she needs to visit 2 of the schools where she was accepted again so she has "fresh" eyes on them. The whole looking at schools process was long and we all started to glaze over by the end…She is our oldest so I'm hoping the process with the younger one will be a bit easier only because I will know more. |
