Any other parents have HS seniors anxiously awaiting college acceptances this week?

We'll be doing accepted student days (at "safety" schools) the first 2 weekends in April. It seems like the kids put so much time in the application process (starting from junior year SATs) and yet there's very little time from their last admit/deny decision til the May 1st deposit date.

I totally agree! My DD has been accepted to 3, rejected at 2, wait listed at 1 and still waiting to hear from 3…it'll be a long week! And then we need to scramble to visit a few of the schools so she can make her decision! I agree with the above poster that I feel like she needs to visit 2 of the schools where she was accepted again so she has "fresh" eyes on them. The whole looking at schools process was long and we all started to glaze over by the end…She is our oldest so I'm hoping the process with the younger one will be a bit easier only because I will know more.

Was just having this conversation with another Mom. As much as I thought we knew about the college application process, it's difficult to really understand until you go through it with one of your kids. Will definitely do things a little differently with others.

We were totally spoiled by DS who was a "one and done" kid. Took SATs once, Jan of jr year. Applied to several colleges early decision, decided on "the one," got the acceptance and done. 2 yrs later comes DD and the entire process couldn't be more different.

^ I'm sure you didn't mean ED early decision to several. Bet you meant EA early action to several and ED to one.

Early action, not ED! Thanks pp. DS applied to several colleges early (but Oct 15) but soon decided which one he wanted to go to and then he was accepted.

Any hints on working the UVA waitlist?

DC got an acceptance today so that's good news. Not a top choice but at least a choice.

That's the thing ~ when they work so hard, it' nice that they feel empowered by choice.

Anyone waiting on Georgetown? Is it true that they only mail out acceptances (snail mail)?

Yes. DD's top choice. They are expected to mail them Thursday the 27th.

Also one of my DCs top choices. Thanks for the update. DC has only 3 snail mail schools and one of the others was BC so maybe it's a catholic college thing.

Villanova notifies via website portal. Follows up with US mail.

Anyone know about Vanderbilt? Do they mail, email or notify by portal?

They are apparently using the portal for the first time this year, then mailing. They haven't announced the date yet, at least last time I checked, but people are thinking they will want to beat the Ivies so it could be tomorrow. I've already given up on this one after reading on their website the admit rate for RD is 10% and the middle 50% of SAT scores for RD is 750-800 on each section.

Wow, that is a lot lower admit rate than I was expecting. It sure is a lot different from the graph on DS's school's Naviance!

I guess it's the impact of ED. By the time they get to the huge RD pool the admit rate drops and scores go up. Probably wasn't worth the app in my DCs case, who is above 700 on all scores, but not above 750 on all.

I am beginning to feel that Naviance is worthless. Waitlisted at many of the schools that Naviance said was not an issue.
