Stress Snacking

Anonymous
For the most part, I have pretty healthy eating habits (yogurt, salads, fruits and veggies, limited fast food). However, I have a snacking problem! Lately, I feel like whenever I get home from work after a long day or when I am tired, I have been snacking. This might mean reaching my hand into the trail mix bag a few too many times or sneaking ice cream before bed. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but I know it adds up and I would like to quit the habit! Anyone have any success cutting back on stress snacking/mindless eating?

I try not to keep easy-to-eat snacks in the house and to snack on yogurt instead.

Are you particularly stressed? Personally, when the weather's gray, it's more of a downer on my mood.

Also, is your dinner ready when you get home? If you can eat a real meal, you may not settle for a snack.

In terms of before bedtime, I would try plain pop corn. Or maybe hot tea to sip.

I'm the same way. I like sugar snap peas. They take a long time to chew and are low cal high fiber.

I usually keep something like hummus or white bean dip handy, along with some crunchy veggies or crackers. It helps take the edge off while I make dinner.

I make a big bowl of popcorn. Not the microwave kind. It takes care of my need to snack for a little over 100 calories.

Try brushing your teeth right after dinner, maybe? (for the late night snacking)

Ditto. I make mine with coconut oil

I know I like to snack around 9:30pm each night so I just make sure to have healthy/relatively healthy stuff to snack on - nuts (in the 100 calorie bag for portion control!), frozen grapes, popcorn (again, the 100 cal bags), watermelon, carrots and a tbspoon of PB, ice pops. I get to pick one and I'm done!
