| I heard that there are free-roaming chickens at Saint Columba's preschool and that there are chicken droppings all over the playground. Is that safe for children?? Is is legal? |
| There are chickens there, usually kept in their pens. There are not droppings all over the place. My kids play there (not at St. C's school) and it is fine. |
| You eat chicken? You've ingested worse. |
| I haven't noticed droppings on the playground. The chickens are normally inside a hutch or the fenced-in area, and there are lots of droppings there. Are you thinking of visiting the playground with your child? |
| I was just at the playground on Sunday and saw no droppings. Sorry, OP. |
| Yes I'd like to take my little one there to play ther. Have heard great things about the playground but we struggle with her compromised immune system so I try to be careful. We'll check it out |
| I'd be more worried about snakes ... where there's chickens and eggs ... |
There are no eggs. The preschooler hatch eggs inside their classrooms. The baby chicks who come from those eggs stay in the classrooms until they are big enough to withstand outside temperatures, and then they are brought outside to be in a coop for a week or two until the farmer can take them back. They are not outside at night, they are not running around the playground equipment, and they are not laying eggs because they are babies themselves. |
| I would LOVE chickens at our preschool! |
+10000 so cool! |
| Kudos to the PTB at St. Columba's for providing the students with a learning experience they'll always remember! |
Have fun if you go! |
The preschool has an inclusion program. I am pretty sure they have/have had students with compromised immune systems. I have never seen droppings on the playground. |
