The main thing people are waiting to see is if there are separate analyses around (1) attendance islands, (2) split feeders, and (3) capacity issues, or whether it's iterative, with refinements based on the feedback received on the prior scenarios.

If they are separate analyses, then people won't really know the direction in which they are heading (i.e., what their real priorities are), but if the analysis is iterative it will seem like whatever final recommendation emerges is essentially a fait accompli.

And I think most people still question the need for this entire exercise - the proverbial "is the juice worth the squeeze" at a time of flat enrollments with likely declines on the horizon.

It's iterative. Otherwise the BRAC would continually have to go back to the drawing board. The slides telegraph Thru/FCPS' intentions. For example, Halley attendance island could have easily gone to Laurel Hill and would have been closeby to South County MS/HS and put capacity in high 90s taking into account the added Sangster island. Then the South County pyramid would be settled with no more changes needed. Instead, Halley placed to Lorton Station, now going further away to Hayfield. This keeps South County MS/HS in low 90s/high 80s. Which nearby Region 4 ES will be used to fill them out? Stay tuned for the capacity meeting. (spoiler alert, not Lorton Station)

I’m actually betting they turn HVES into a 50-50 split feeder with half the school staying at Irving and WSHS, and the southern half at South County. Maybe adjusting some boundaries between it and OHES, Sangster, and extending into the other WS and LB pyramid schools that are all quite physically close to one another. It gets kids out of WSHS and into SoCo, which is well under capacity and losing some students back to Hayfield.

They’ll also need to adjust boundaries within SoCo’s elementaries to account for Halley losing over 100 students in the attendance island. There is a new development going up off Hooes near the temple which is currently in bounds for Silverbrook, which is close to capacity, so I’m betting the adjustments will be done between those two schools. Technically both Halley and Silverbrook both are situated within the same large neighborhood of Crosspointe, and you can drive between the two schools on only neighborhood streets.

DP. About 8% of Vienna feeds to Kilmer/Marshall rather than Thoreau/Madison. Years ago there was a piece of Freedom Hill/Kilmer that fed to Madison and they lobbied successfully to get moved to Vienna/Thoreau. The first group was given the option to move to Freedom Hill and the vocal parents wanted to stay at Vienna even though it created a very uneven split feeder. I assume that’s what might be moved.

Coates becomes smaller; Herndon ES expands southward.
Oak Hill ES takes Navy Island and loses upper area to Fox Mill.
Nothing about Carsons middle

Can you post a URL to the slides?

Yes please. Unable to find the slides.

I'm glad whoever posts the slides on the website is in a hurry to do so.

I’m thinking all of Gunston Elementary will attend South County MS\HS.

Rolling Valley split feeder to Saratoga/Key/Lewis as someone on this thread already predicted. They didn’t touch Gunston or Sangster - both schools that cover a very large geographical area and are thus hard to “fix” without some area getting totally screwed on commute time.

How did they not even touch Franklin? I feel like they went all nutso on attendance islands and backed off on effort (thankfully) on split feeders.

It appears they are sending Navy Island to Oak Hill. That keeps them at Franklin. So, will they send them to Chantilly? That would even out the Chantilly/Oakton split.

Didn’t they say how the changes would affect high school attendance last time? They didn’t state this here.

Are there a handful of Westfield kids currently at Franklin?

The RVES change actually won’t affect HS because that neighborhood is already zoned for Key and Lewis. They currently go RVES - Key - Lewis and will now go Saratoga - Key - Lewis.

Now in actuality, I actually have no idea how many families move out of that neighborhood before MS to another WSHS-feeding ES - probably a lot.
