Educational Extortion! MCPS will hire this prof...[/b] Georgia Tech professor accused of taking $20K from students Note: First action of Georgia Tech is to remove professor, second action is to commit to re-paying students. Bookmark and Share the article - http://www.ajc.com/news/news/breaking-news/georgia-tech-professor-accused-taking-20k-students/nd734/ and the connection is???????????????????????????????? yes, still nuts . . . |
Rock Terrace. MCPS still has not repaid the students and it's been 11 months.
Principal allowed to retire with pension rather than be fired. |
And THAT'S the connection? It's still sensationalism b/c she loves making sweeping generalizations. |
I know people like to knock the women who does the Parents Coalition Blog. It's true, she does have an obnoxious, hostile tone that is probably not helping her cause, but I prefer to focus on the substance of what she's pointing out. She really raised the alarm flag on the sexual assault legislation put forward by Jamie Raskin and some of his comments during a hearing. She pointed out that the legislation would actually weaken some of the protections already in existence for minors in school, and questioned the justification that the weakened language had to be accepted as part of a compromise for stronger language elsewhere. She called "bull" on that compromise argument and insisted that legislators who supported the weakened language (raising the permitted age gap from 4 to 7 years) to identify themselves.
As a result, the BOE backpedaled away from its prior support for the legislation. CASA, the sexual assault coalition, also backed away from its position supporting the "compromise". Legislators have now stripped away the 7 year provision (reverting, I believe, the the 4 year provision that had previously existed). But, as the blog points out, volunteers are still left out of teh PIPA definition. Hate her all you want. IMO, she did a great service by screaming out loud about this legislation, and the changes are due solely to her pointing the light at this issue. |
She always does a great job of bringing things to our attention. Do I agree with the extremism, no, but I do agree with what she accomplishes for us. Her free services to our community are invaluable. |
I am on a different computer, but I was on the other PC thread railing against people who just throw out names without backing up their words unlike what I saw earlier.
I would add two points, though 1. I agree with other posters that the PC does more good, than bad by bringing issues to light that you would not otherwise see. We can use our own judgement to decide what is sensationalistic and what is legit. Much of it is legit. 2. Sometimes you need a crazy person to get results. Eric Snowden raised National Security issues internally 10 times, but finally went rogue to the press when his complaints were not heard. I think his rogue strategy worked better. |
Oops - strike out the words "unlike what I saw earlier" as I can't edit them out. |
OP, Stop posting all this inane drivel about the Parents' Coalition. Recently there has been as least one other thread using the same punctuation and language ("yes, still nuts..."). It was completely obvious you were sock-puppeting that thread, because every other poster on it was calling the PC "batshit crazy" with the same sentence structure. Clearly you have an axe to grind with the PC. Realize that you are actually creating support and publicity for it with over-the-top criticisms and insults. Let me add that you can't pull one over DCUM on the topic of education specifically, as most posters are very involved and well-informed on the subject. There is a vocal majority here that is not happy with MCPS, and is prepared to listen to whomever is willing to stand up for the students' best interests. FYI. |
Yeah, Janis has cornered the market on it. |
You're an idiot. That other post wasn't mine. Janus, however, is a nut job, and I'm entitled to voice my opinion, too. So keep pretending that MCPS is out to get you and your kids and enjoy your paranoia. love that line in bold, btw If you were familiar with my history, you wouldn't have included that statement. |
All you do is throw out names. I laugh every time I read these kind of posts. You are like a Queen Bee middle schooler who thinks that by calling people idiots, nut jobs or paranoid that everyone will follow you. You retreat to the "my opinion" backstop whenever pressed by any kind of reasonable discussion. It's not an opinion, it's a slander. These PC threads are all about name-calling. Never is a real issue discussed about how to run 150K student school system with a $2Billion+ budget. In the real world, there are lots of tradeoffs. You can spend resources in one place at the expense of another place. There are lots of issues around special needs kids, gifted kids, early childhood education, bus transportation, curriculum, testing, teacher pay, classroom size, etc. Reasonable people can disagree on these issues. In your little DCUM world, you know everything and we should just trust your anonymous judgement that some people are idiots. Yeah, right. I would love to debate you on something interesting, but your teenage mentality is not all that interesting. |
Thank you. |
On second thought, my apologies to teenagers for the 'teenage mentality' comment above. |
every time some brings up these people it brings out the nutballs! |
It is amazing. |
