supplements and/or other natural ways to help ease anxiety in a 7 yr old

I am worried about our DC. I will take him in to the ped to discuss concerns but in the interim - any suggestions on how to help a 7 yr old with anxiety?

Hi - We are dealing with anxiety with my 7 year old DD. I just wanted to mention that we reached out to the guidance counselor at her school for help and she is now meeting with our daughter weekly to try and help provide her with coping skills to handle her anxiety (hers is primarily brought on by the pressure cooker environment in her classroom).

Her guidance counselor recommended providing her plenty of physical activity after school to just let her deflate rather than diving right into homework after school. We are just starting this process so sorry I don't have more advice to offer.

We also got her this book off Amazon which she seems to like -
What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety (What to Do Guides for Kids)

Best of luck to you.

sometimes taking a break and doing some deep breathing can help.

Thank you so much. Great suggestions. We are signing him up for a sport in the spring so hope being active will help. It is really tough sseeing your child almost in tears due to worry/fears.

I have recently moved to the US but I had a close friend in Australia who sent her 8 year old to a CBT group course run by a university there. The first thing he said after the first meeting was "I'm not the only one!", the course helped and he really enjoyed not feeling 'different'. I'm sure that you could find the same sort of thing here, the fact that it wasn't run through the school was also a help as it wasn't his peer group.

Alvord Baker and Associates specializes in anxiety, so does Ross Center, I believe.

Thanks PPs. We got a bunch of exercise today so hope that will help him feel better. Will look into the group therapy ideas too!

Does yoga make you sleepy?

There is a drink mix called "Calm" (WF has it), which provides extra magnesium that some kids are lacking.

What about meditation?

I have seen those to and they could work for a kid or an adult by way of having a psychosomatic effect as could using candies like mints or tic tacs.

For example, some children complain of physical stomach or other pains that are linked to anxiety. It's believed that peppermint helps relieve stomach upset as well as headaches, etc. Tell the child if they feel particularly upset, to suck on an Altoid and it will help. It won't really do anything but the child doesn't really know that and just the belief that it will help and they have done something proactive might be enough to dial back their anxiety a bit.
