Dining in Wheaton/Silver Spring

Anonymous
We're new to Silver Spring and have visited most of the restaurants in DTSS. but in Wheaton, we've only been to Nava Thai and Ruan Thai.

Wheaton has a wealth of affordable ethnic restaurants -- what do you recommend?

And are there any hidden gems we're missing in Silver Spring (doesn't have to be downtown).

Ren's Ramen

We love Moby Dick Sushi in Wheaton.

Have you been to Ghar e Kabab in DTSS? Quarry House Tavern for burgers and wings? Mandalay?

Of those, have been to QH. I like it as a hangout, but wasn't impressed with the burger -- it was a little dry. The fried pickles though. OMG.

I like Nick's Diner as a greasy spoon.

Max's has very good falafel.

Moby Dick kabobs in downtown Silver Spring. Also really like Adega near Whole Foods. Not ethnic but very good and reasonable. There is also a Lebanese Taverna cafe in DTSS

Urban Butcher just opened in December. Went there for the first time this past weekend. It's a fun new place. Interesting concept--coffee shop, butcher shop and restaurant, bar in one. Had the house made sausages and they were great. Also loved the empanada and broccoli raab. The bar is a fun place to hang out, as you have a full view of the open kitchen.

Full Key is our favorite chinese. We always get it to go.

Tried the sushi and chinese at Spring Garden because they deliver and it was disgutsting.

By the way, Nava Thai delivers. Our favorite.

Flippin pizza is the best. Try the Brooklyn pizza. They have buy one get one free takeout or eat in on Mondays and Tuesdays.

In Wheaton, try these:

Seoul Food DC (Univ + Georgia, in the gas station -- seriously, try it)
Saigonese (bahn mi, pho)
Marchione's (subs/grinders)
Limerick Pub (for the music and pints, more than the food)
Pollo Rico (Salvadorian style chicken)

In Forest Glen, there is Pacci's Trattoria which offers the same pizza as the DTSS location, as well as pasta dishes and a huge Sunday brunch buffet.

I also like some of the others mentioned, especially Max's and Moby Dick Sushi.

If you haven't tried Burger Fi check that out...very similar to Shake Shack if you've been to NY, but very very good. 8407 and The Classics are also among the best restaurants in the lower county area.

Cristina's in Wheaton - great little Italian place. Venturing a little further out, Samantha's in SS/Takoma, one of the best Latin restaurants in the area. Corner Pub in Four Corners is a neighborhood classic that was re-opened recently and is excellent.
