DD complained of sore throat Sunday morning. Fever by evening. Also developed cough, runny nose, tired. She is much better afte taking Advil but fever keeps coming back. I don think it has taken her this long to shake off this type of thing before. Would you call the pediatrician?
Could be strep. If it is bacterial some antibiotics could knock it back and she'll feel better in less than 24 hours. Just make the appt and go.
I'm not a med professional, but sounds like it could be the flu to me.
Yes. Our pediatrician says to call if it's over 104 or 4 days with a fever.
Nurse line? Our ped only has non-infants come in for fevers that last 7 days, are unresponsive to medication, or are 104+.
I would
Yes, I would take her in for a strep test.
Thanks all. I should have added that her throat is no longer sore.
Yes, I would call or take her to urgent care for a strep test.
Yes, call. That's what they are there for.
I am one to never run to the doctor with my child so quickly but after a couple days with all those symptoms, I would take the child in. Make sure they test for strep and flu and look for an ear infection.
Mine had A 102 fever that wasn't budging after 4 days, and it turned out to be pneumonia. His cough was very rough-sounding, and he was coughing frequently. If she has all of those symptoms, that's another possibility. A standard exam would pick that up.
Yes call the nurse hotline
I wouldn't call the nurse, I would have taken her to ped or urgent care today. Untreated strep is something you want to avoid.
I would still get a strep test. Strep can be tricky. I once had what I thought was a cold that went away, but turned out to be strep that came back with a vengeance a few weeks later. |
