Anyone know how many days MCPS schools clsoed this year?

I am trying to figure out when the last day of school will be. Were we closed five or more days? Sure feels like it!

I don't know but hoping for at least a delayed opening with Wednesday's predicted snow.

Thank you PP!

No waiver! They should go the full time, except high school seniors, for whom a waiver may be appropriate. Between delays and cancellations, January and February were a total bust.

I just wish they'd cancel the useless MSAs (like they should) and let the kids get classroom instruction instead. The governor won't let them because they'll lose federal funding. Stupid case of the tail wagging the dog.

The senior schedule is pretty much set because graduation dates have been set since fall and I don't think there is any flexibility at DAR since both MCPS and FCPS and maybe other school systems use the facility for graduations. MCPS I think does 24 graduations there (Blair is too big for DAR). Senior finals are set well before the graduation date. Then they are done effective their graduation date - which is over about a 2 week span depending on the slot your school gets. I assume given all that that a waiver isn't necessary since seniors are already not getting 180 days of school.

I think the seniors are basically just exempt because they don't go for 180 days and adding on days after they have graduated is useless. But the rest of the kids should get their full time in -- I would like it if they made up for all of the 2-hour delays lost too. But I am guessing, no days will be added on, and I was told that because at least one of the days occurred during a state of the emergency, that day(s) does not have to be made up . . .

Can you imagine the furor that would be caused if the school system extended the school day for 1 1/2 hours like they did in 1999?

The parents would try to burn down 850 Hungerford.

I think the press release posted earlier said 2 of the days were during a state of emergency. That would actually work out well - waive 2 days, extend one day to the Friday of that last week. I frankly think they should give up Easter Monday - it would be much better for the older kids to have a day before APs rather than after.

Can't do that. Easter Monday is a state mandated holiday. All public schools in MD must be closed that day and on Good Friday.

So much for the separation of church and state. It's not a federal holiday.

I would welcome this.

Extending the school day, that is....
