UPS SurePost is SLOW!!

Anonymous
I have ordered packages from three different companies, Mini Boden, Carter's and Amazon. All of the packages were supposed to arrive by last Monday. When I track the packages they all say they have been transferred to the local post office ( Old Town Alexandria). So they have been sitting there for days. And this is from three different companies. I've googled UPS sure post and it seems like many people are frustrated with this shipping service including people who pay for Amazon Prime shipping. Why would UPS join up with the USPS? The USPS is notoriously unreliable. I used to get things in about 5-7 business days and now it is taking over two weeks. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Just saw an article about how mail is piling up in some local post offices because USPS doesn't want to pay employees overtime. Wonder if this is the reason some previous posters have said they haven't gotten their mail lately.

USPS workers say they are being forced to end shifts early

Rain, sleet and snow may not stop the United States Postal Service, but fear of paying overtime could keep letters from reaching your mailbox in a timely fashion.

Some Washington, D.C. postal workers say post office management is forcing them off the street early, even when their routes are far from complete. Although a USPS spokeswoman denied any such allegations, carriers tell ABC7 that the newly established rule is being strictly enforced....

Take the Friendship Station along the 4000 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW, which distributes mail for zip codes 20007 (Georgetown/Foggy Bottom), 20008 (Cleveland Park), and 20016 (Friendship Heights). Hidden behind its red brick walls, carriers say, are heaps of letters, bills and prescriptions sitting stagnant for days on end. Pictures released exclusively to ABC7 (see video above) corroborate their assertions. In dozens of colored photographs, mail can be seen piled high in white USPS cloth hampers and clear plastic baskets; correspondence that should have hit homes last week, frontline employees contend.

Yes! I have had the same experience with several packages from Target. It takes like 36 hours for UPS to deliver the package to a post office in MD, and then WEEKS for it to get here. Average time: 3 weeks. I have simply crossed Target off my list of possible on-line ordering sites.
For Amazon Prime, delivery is much faster, but nothing has met the 2-day shipping promised since well before Christmas.
I think on-line shopping has reached its peak. Just doesn't work anymore.

Never had a delivery problem with USPS, but I have had issues with FedEx. FedEx will toss your packages, fail to leave them, etc.

How can they pay overtime, when Congress is pressing them into bankruptcy.

Why doesn't UPS just deliver the packages? Why transfer them to the post office? They didn't used to do this. IT's much faster when they deliver themselves! They are a private company so it doesn't make sense to me why they would deliver to post office

Didn't they strike up a deal with USPS that was thought to be mutually beneficial, ie, USPS gets more customers (through UPS) and UPS doesn't have to use as many of their own drivers/trucks for delivery?

When I lived in Old Town, Post Office package delivery was terrible. They would leave a sticker saying they had attempted delivery, even when we were home. One day, I heard the mail come through the slot and opened the door while the mail man was still there. He admitted that he didn't even have the package in his vehicle. In other words, they weren't even trying to deliver the packages. We had one mailman who was good, but the rest were awful.

I had problems with Amazon over Christmas. The UPS portion was quick, then the transfer to this Surepost thing was very slow. It was so annoying and gifts arrived AFTER Christmas, even though I ordered by the "guaranteed to be delivered by dec 24th" deadline. It is really irritating. I do not have Amazon prime, but I would pissed if I paid for that and shipping was delayed.

The UPS SurePost is a joke. With the UPS tracking you can follow it until it is dumped at the post office. I have had several deliveries sit at the post office for a week before being delivered to my house and I live a half mile from the post office.

In the commit section of any online orders now I put a note that I want door to door UPS or FedEx only. So far it has worked.

PPs, have you told UPS, Amazon, Target, etc about the USPS delays? I'm sure they would want to know.

Ups Sure post is an option the shipper chooses to use when shipping the package. It is the cheapest method of shipping.

I had no idea this was happening with USPS. I ordered something from Amazon last week and paid a little extra in shipping to get it earlier than their free shipping. I've tracked the package through Fed Ex which is now 2 days late and discovered that it's sitting in a Bethesda post office waiting to be delivered to me. This is ridiculous.
