Grocery store pet peeve

Anonymous
I go to the Giant on Duke Street Alexandria and there is always 10k shoppers in there with one manned checkout lane and seven self checkout lanes and those things NEVER EFFING WORK. I know, I need to go down the street to Whole Foods but that parking garage is a whole other matter.
Thanks for letting me vent. Now you tell me yours.

The interminable wait to get help at the deli counter. I love fresh deli meat but it has to be really fresh, so in a perfect world, I would get it a few times a week. But I have to do mental calculations to determine whether I have the time and energy to get my turkey.

People who put their cart on one side of the aisle and then stand in the other side completely blocking the aisle.

I just had the guy in front of me in the check out lane leave his cart in the lane! He grabbed his bags and walked off, leaving me to deal with his damn cart. Asshole.

Use "Scan-it" at Giant. It's the fastest way to go.

People (senior citizens mostly) who still write checks and who are so slow about it.

Displays in the middle of the aisle so you can't have two carts passing. I get the marketing strategy to encourage impulse buying, but it's so annoying that some aisles are obstacle courses.

Me too! In my old neighborhood you could put your deli order into a little computer when you arrived at the store and it would be ready by the time you were done shopping. I miss that! Maybe not a pet peeve but I will also only eat Boars Head deli meat. I was ecstatic when it finally came to Harris Teeter.

It works for me about 50% of the time. The other half of the time, I have to wait to be "audited" or my scanner craps out halfway through the store.

But I do get my deli stuff at Giant. I order at the kiosk, then shop while they fill the order. Much faster than waiting.

Never being able to find the produce bags. They are always widely interspersed and in the most inconvenient places.

This drives me crazy too. And the alternative version, leaving the cart in the center of the aisle so no one can pass.

People who start putting their basket on the self scanner machine and stand right next to you before you are done.

Clueless people who take up the entire isle

Clueless people either standing in the middle of the aisle or leaving their cart in bad places.

That and people who don't control their kids and let them run wildly, throw things, etc.

people at check out who place their shopping cart behind themselves, instead in fornt. The checker cannot load the cart and the folks behind you cannot place their food onto the conveyor belt.

Its easier to get the stuff out of the cart and from under it to put it on the conveyor belt. Thats why we do it, especially if we have young children in tow who are sitting in the cart.
