Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I've had it. After hearing someone say that her son was 48 months, I almost lost it. When a child turns 12 months and one day, it's time to use the word year.
just my pet peeve |
| Yes! My husband used to do that and it made me cringe. I don't know why anyone thinks anyone else cares about that level of detail! I imagine it's just a habit, because it does make sense that first year, but still . . . |
I suppose then I shouldn't tell you I am 508 months old?
|
I am also 508 months old. And you know what? For the first time, 42 sounds better! 8) |
| I use months until 2. Only b/c I feel like their is a world is difference between a 14 mos. old and a 23 mos. old...and if your kid is taller like mine, it helps to let people know, no in fact, she is not slow. |
| I agree with 19:38 that each month makes a difference the first couple of years so months are important information. (My DC1 used to say the baby was zero before he turned one, though.) |
Totally agree that months are the most appropriate until age two. |
OP, if that's the worst pet peeve you have to post here, you have a nice life!
|
| Agree with using months until two. Until that point, a month does make a difference. Sorry you don't like it, OP. But, too bad. |
either that or my life is pretty pathetic
|
| Yup, my 18 month old is taller and bigger than most 3 year olds. I use months to clarify when people assume he is a 3 year old. |
I agree completely. My kids are tall too. |
|
Can we get rid of "Almost"? Like Weaning my almost 17 month old? Is my almost 23 month old ready for potty training?
|
yeah - agree Almost is stupid. Either stick with the kid's current age or move it up a notch. Who's going to question you? And who really cares whether your child is one day away from 17 months? |
Same. |
