Being a patron of a charity isn't even raising money for it, its just shwoing up at events and smiling to publicize a call. they cannot lobby govt for anything. So thats what they do, they show up to dozens of events, nothing controversial and cut ribbons and shake hands. its not on them to "read the binders" of research, their staff should be advising them better on the bad look of the caribean tour. The problem is that the palace staff is full of stuffy old white peopel who refuse to see the writing on the wall.

I think you've sort of encapsulated to a tee the uselessness of monarchy.

But, but….. Kate will be a qUeEeEeEeEeEn!

Canada and the other Commonwealth countries will make decisions about what they want to do. Are you Canadian? You don't sound like it, in your post.

Yes, I am Canadian. And I (and lots of other young Canadians) resent the money Canada sends to the BRF.

Ryan Gosling would make a wonderful Prince Philip! I’ll bet the Queen, Charles and Will would approve.

Or, if they cared, they could have done Harry’s style of royal work. they are not allowed to have any political power or opinions. Kinda but not really. Prince Charles has a lot of opinions and he’s taken heat for several of them, plus “helpful” isn’t limited to just political entities. Being a patron of a charity isn't even raising money for it, its just shwoing up at events and smiling to publicize a call. Which is how a lot of places fundraiser and raise awareness. As an American I’m not the target market, but look how much money Meghan raised for the Hubb Community Kitchen. How much more visibility did they bring to a group of people who had fallen out of the news but still didn’t have adequate housing. they cannot lobby govt for anything. They don’t really need to. They just needed to get out there and advertise these places. So thats what they do, they show up to dozens of events, nothing controversial and cut ribbons and shake hands. They don’t show up, actually, that’s the point of people criticizing them. Elizabeth did. Phillip did. Charles does. Camilla does. Anne has, for decades. Harry did. Meghan did, even before her wedding. Just not William and Kate. its not on them to "read the binders" of research, You think they should just show up and keep mumble mouthing their way through their insanely well compensated jobs? Nah, they can start reading their research. They might appear to care if they did. their staff should be advising them better on the bad look of the caribean tour. From the rumors about William, nobody can tell him anything. The problem is that the palace staff is full of stuffy old white peopel who refuse to see the writing on the wall. The problem is William and Kate.

The problem is uniquely William and Kate. They’re always “keen” to do something, but they never do it. The rota is always talking about how William and Kate are always wanting to “modernize” the “stuffy” system, but they never show up long enough to do it. They’re bums on the dole.

The British Royal Family is a symbol of tradition, heritage, and culture. They are important to the country, despite accusations of "uselessness".

To some extent, our First Family fills the role here. Since they switch out every 4 or 8 years, though, there's no stability or permanence.

They also bring in much more than they cost: https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/they-cost-us-a-mint-but-bring-in-much-more/amp/

This is such a lazy and inaccurate claim that's been debunked so many times. You really have to be reaching if you think people are traveling to the UK because of the royal family, lol. Funny how just across the Channel, Versailles brings in way more tourist money than Buckingham Palace ever would. If you spend just a little more than a minute really thinking this through, it becomes immediately apparent just how paper-thin this argument is.

The funny part of that article is where they say that Kate is going to do more solo tours because Will is a bit difficult on international tours. It made me think of him stomping foot and saying “Kate, I don’t wanna eat schnitzel for dinner. I wanted fish and chips!” I bet his is a total pain in the arse to travel with. What’s funny about them is, for a family whose entire job is public appearances, they seem to have a definite streak of social anxiety or low E.Q. It was endearing for his great-grandfather who was forced into the role but now it just seems weird. I feel like the BRF keeps trying to marry in some more sociable blood (like breeding for temperament in dogs) but it’s just not working. It’s like a doodle with the poodle standoffishness.

Yes, for now at least.

I would not pay any attention at all to the royals if Canada did not send them money. I don’t care about them other than the fact they take Canadian taxpayer money.
