| I am supposed to start Lupron soon for an IVF cycle. I have done some googling about it and have read some really scarey stuff. There's even a section on Erin Brokovich's website devoted to it . Has anyone had any experience with Lupron? What negative side effects did you have? Some of the stuff I've read is regarding intense depression, night sweats/night terrors, headaches, etc. |
|
I think it really depends how long you take it. If only a week or two, you may not have much in the way of side effects. I did a 3 month course as a treatment for endometriosis and started having major hot flashes by 2-3 weeks in. Also struggled with some depression/moodiness.
On the plus side, the treatment did what it was supposed to and I was pregnant within a month of finishing treatment. |

I had a horrible reaction to (a microdose of) Lupron. Seriously. Hot flashes, fogginess, and weird tingling feelings in my face. My RE took me off of it after two days. I used Cetrotide instead to suppress ovulation.
FWIW, though, my RE said that in his entire career he'd never seen anyone react to Lupron the way I did. To this day I don't know if it was just a coincidence or not, but I refuse to take it ever again. |
| op here: Under normal circumstances, I would NEVER take a drug with that many bad side effects to cure anything-- I would just deal with whatever illness I had. However, I just spoke with my RE's office and the nurse said this is the only prototcol-- that I must take Lupron for this cycle. Im honestly second guessing going through with the FET because this drug is scaring the pants off me. |
| I got headaches towards the end of taking Lupron, but when I added Estrogen back in they went away. Small price to pay for a possible BFP... |
|
I've done Lupron twice (both times for just a week, microdoses). I didn't notice any side effects either time -- I slept restlessly a couple nights the second go-round, but not sure whether that was the Lupron or the extra chai lattes I drank.
The thing with side effects is it's often a crap shoot -- Lupron & Acctuane I took with barely a twinge, but I can't take Sudafed b/c my heart starts pounding a mile a minute. You don't know how you're going to react until you take it. |
|
OP I was on Lupron three or four times (it's all a little blurry now 3 years in the rear view mirror). I never had any significant side effects from it.
|
| I have been on it a couple of times. The first time I didn't really have any side effects. The second time I had horrible, horrible headaches and was kind of moody. But nothing so severe that it was unbearable. |
Did they say why? There are other options for ovulation suppression, so I would question this. At a minimum, you have the right to understand why. I allowed myself to be put off with pat answers for a lot of my early IF treatments, and I really regret that now. I don't know if I would have asked to change things if I knew more, but I would have felt better about the process. That said, I think the majority of people are fine using Lupron for fertility treatments. It's a short course, and there are options to keep dosing very minimal. |

00:20, what e exactly is a microdose? How many units were you taking?
9:50, did you get a BFP? I assume you did a FET? |
| I was also wondering about lupron. I've heard about depression and messed up sex drive. Anyone experience that? |
| I was on Lupron for 2 weeks for an FET cycle. I did not experience depression but I put on some weight and my butts and thighs bulged out in all possible directions! |
| I am the 9:06 PP again. Forgot to mention about microdose lupron in a fresh IVF cycle. I used to cry for no reason. I am not sure if lupron did that or continuous IVF failures. |
| 9:06, thanks for input. How much was your dosage? |
