I have a large great room and I need to cover a part of it with an area rug. With kids and cats who like to throw up I am not looking for something really fancy and expensive, but I have nice decor and want something nice. I have been to the usual places, pottery barn and Home Depot, but the quality, styles and sometimes price don't cut it. Is here someplace else to look. I know there are lots of on line stores, but I am afraid to buy something that big sight unseen. I know colors vary. Any suggestions of showrooms or something? |
Ikea |
Overstock.
Ikea also has good rugs and you can see them in person. |
Go to a carpet store (like wall to wall) and buy a cheap one. Spend more on the pad. They will cut to size for you on site. I used carpet one for my dining room which is a weird size - worked great. |
Ikea has affordable rugs and quite a good selection. |
OP here, yes dd gets me up early. Been to ikea and not ,inch goes with my colors and decor. Any other thoughts? |
rugsusa.com has good sales all the time. also second the overstock recommendation. They carry surya and safavieh at a much lower price. |
Find an area rug you can take to the laundramat. I have 3 area rugs from Crate & Barrel that I wash and have never faded (try the outlet in Old Town) and hold up after years of washing and drying. We have a new dog and she's had accidents so they've been washed a lot. If you have a cat who throws up, you might want to consider a similar rug. |

Marlo! Found their selection to be large and prices to be in line with what I was willing to pay. |
Had a terrible experience with this company. We paid for a rug and six months later still didnt have it (was allegedly in stock and to be delivered in 1 week). We had to contact the BBB to get our money back. I second the idea of a carpet store. We had a large, custom rug cut for our family room (also the scene of much cat and child vomit) and even with the fanciest, nicest pad, it was cheaper than an area rug and nicely bound, fits the space perfectly, etc. We're going to do the same thing for our sons' long, narrow bedroom and our nicer living room. I was surprised by the variety and selection. Oh, and they generally deliver it to you and "install" it (move and lift furniture, etc), which is nice. |

RugsUSA has big sales - like up to 75% on big wool rugs sometimes. We've had good luck with them.
Overstock carries some of the same rugs, at a higher price than the RugsUSA sale prices. |

I've had a lot of luck with rugstudio.com. Large selection, good brands, free shipping, no tax. |
