You really can't see the difference?

What difference. There are reform, conservative and orthodox Jewish camps. Even the most reform camps are kosher, sing hebrew songs and teach about the bible. So no, I do not see a difference. and for the record. I am Jewish and I get it. So many of the posters on this thread simply do not get it.

Christians believe that if you don't believe Jesus is the son of God, you're going to hell. Do you really not see the difference between going to a camp with that underlying message in their religion and one in which you can't eat certain things and say a blessing before you eat?

Plus wasn't Jesus reportedly a Jew? He probably brought some of his mother's religion with him.

I just wrote about context and people jumping on OP. But I also think this is slippery slope thinking, and I'm a pretty staunch atheist. My kid goes to a pretty school with faith based lessons, Methodists, and there are probably 30% Hindi kids there that are distinctly not Christian. You have to really ask the u comfy questions with these organizations but even I was comfy with three answers. this is not in response to OP though. that's a family problem more than a faith based one

Hindi kids?

Do they go to school with, like, the Esperanto ones?

Long-standing issue that I am Jewish and we are raising our children Jewish, husband is totally onboard and has made that clear to his folks many times. So we call about dropping them off tonight and MIL casually mentions she signed them up for half day Bible camp at her church all week! I was speechless, literally handed the phone to DH and walked away. I think we need to cancel the trip tonight, I can't imagine how she thought this was ok. Where do I even go from here?

Curious what type of marriage you have that your DH was OK with your unilaterally imposing your religion on your religion on your kids and not allowing them to participate in his and his family's cultural traditions. I'd be pretty upset if I were him.

Uh, maybe the type where he isn't particularly religious but the OP is so he didn't mind raising the kids in her faith because it's important to her? Agreeing to something ahead of time does not equal "unilaterally imposing." At this point, I think the trolls are just crawling all over this post. I'm not usually one to use the phrase "willfully obtuse" on DCUM, but come on.

I am Christian and I don't believe that. I know many Christians who don't believe that. This inability of some posters to drop this topic is sad. If we can switch the subject, can we have people who truly believe in God and prophets acknowledge their full faith? I think the truth is that today, religion is used to maintain traditions and cultural identity. I really have a hard time believing that so many people here, today, educated people, believe in God in heaven and Christians in his son Jesus Christ. Let's have a poll. Are you a true believer or is religion now part of your heritage and traditions?

If OP's inlaws don't believe that, then why are they going around behind their son and DIL's backs to try to baptize their kids? Oh right. Because they think the kids will go to hell otherwise.

Umm most VBS programs are for fun not for frightening young children. What in the world do you think goes on at a vbs in the DC area?? Maybe check a few out before you decide what they are about. Or just check out one if it is the one your kids might attend.

Ummm no ...?

I see the difference. It has something to do with the parents of the Jewish kids.

Except they shun Christians at the one in our area. We joined one summer for the pool. Never again.

I am curious to know how you were shunned? How would anyone even have know that you weren't Jewish?

Perhaps the family is not white
There is a lot of elitism shrouded in religious piety

Religious piety? Ha! You obviously don't know what the JCC is.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is the same OP who had a cow about her non-Jewish DH having a Christmas tree last year even though they are raising their kids Jewish.

I am a Christian who was seriously traumatized at a VBS when they made us watch "A Thief in the Night" and had an altar call every day. This church taught that anyone who hasn't accepted Jesus is going to hell. I do not believe that. My children are Christian and my DH is Jewish and you better bet I'm seriously vetting the religious camps and VBS before I send them. I would never let my kids go to the VBS where I grew up. They are not all created equal and they're not all about fun and games.
