St James sales pitch was getting kids to play in college but I don't see any evidence that is the case on their social media.
Where are they posting all the college commits they are getting on exchange for 30k+ tuition a year? |
when your only real comp was a 35-0 running clock blowout, your film doesn't mean much |
We aren’t talking about the entire school population, we are talking about the basketball team. People are upset because it creates a maturity disadvantage for some of the kids who haven’t reclassed. |
If you understood what’s going on in basketball, you would know that you can’t tell how old a kid is by which bracket they play in. Kids that reclassed play with their grade most of the time. Kids that should be playing 17u are playing 15u and 16u and are 19 year olds playing 17u. |
Also juco is no longer counted towards eligibility. I know a kid that reclassed in middle school, played basketball at O’Connell, played 2 years at a Juco, and started his first of college basketball this year. |

Weird question, but is it still a commuter school or do they have housing do the kids?
I’ve seen a few transfers from spotsylvania and stafford and that would be a long drive on a daily basis. |
6 on that team were identified, but someone had the post removed. Another one, who transferred out after the season started was also mentioned making it 7. 4 are seniors, 1 is a sophomore, 1 is a freshman, and the one the transferred out after the season started was also a sophomore. |

how is the track team doing at VA Showcase?
they are definitely putting the hard sell on local track talent- the main selling point seems to be if you are going to run D1 you need to be able to take classes remotely and do work on your own. Seems like an odd flex. Also, D1 programs offer way more support than STJ has! |
The basketball team has kids from NY and Connecticut. They are probably hosted a lot during the season but live, train, and attend school from home for the most part. |
In their defense, it's the first year of the program and as time moves on they will likely become more prolific in their college success stories. They did send a bunch of kids to college. 2 to Maryland 1 to James Madison 1 to Howard 1 to Norfolk St A few more to D2 programs |
There are very few 16yo seniors, but I agree a kid who turns 19 in August should be headed to college. All the kids in between are going to be 99% of the actual seniors. |
|
I've never heard of a 16 year old senior, that's very odd to me. Kids turn 17 as juniors.
Regardless, its within the VHSL rules to reclass up until the age cutoff so anyone can choose to do it, if they want to. |
They do not offer boarding. It is a long drive. But part of the sales pitch is that if you come to our program, your kid does not need to got to practice with their club team every night because they are getting 2 hours each day in school. Therefore, you could be free each evening, leaving time to commute to/ from school...like adults do for work. |
Yeah, but a lot of club team coaches aren’t okay with a kid skipping practices |
I turned 17 in October my senior year. |
