The administration on Saturday urged the USAID staff to join the effort to transform how Washington allocates aid around the world in line with Trump's "America First" policy. It also threatened "disciplinary action" for any staff ignoring the administration's orders.
An internal memo sent to USAID employees on Monday evening said the new leadership identified several actions in the agency that "appeared to be designed to circumvent the President's Executive Orders and the mandate from the American people."
"As a result, we have placed a number of USAID employees on administrative leave with full pay and benefits until further notice while we complete our analysis of these actions," Acting Administrator Jason Gray said in the memo, reviewed by Reuters.

USAID believed it was accountable to no one.

If USAID is so terrible, why didn’t Trump do something about it his first term? You know, the first time he made America great again.

He has a mandate now with control of congress.

Then why not have congress make the changes. They are not King Elon's to make.
He is a special employee of the Office of the President, along with all of DOGE, and has been given that authority.

Congress appropriated tens of billions for USAID, but not any specific grants.

This is untrue. Congress specified particular uses for most of USAID's funding. Food aid, PEPFAR, a big long list.

And, this funding will now go to State Department for dispersal.

It is separate from State for obvious reasons that anyone with a clue would understand.

They’ll all sue the federal government for wrongful termination and we’ll pay them more than we had, plus unemployment, if we’d just kept them on. Whatever agency they’re from.

Hopefully they come home safely first.

If there is a suspicion that taxpayer money is being wasted, then certainly they should be looked at. Why do you sound like you would have preferred a status quo where the waste continues?

You are clueless. USAID programs and funding annually go through budget submissions, House and Senate committee hearings and approvals, House and Senate floor votes, Presidential signature, regulatory processes with comment periods, legal scrutiny, etc., acquisition and grants management procedures, requirements, evaluations, oversight, reporting, and then start the processes over again. Just because you and Elon Musk are clueless doesn’t mean these are secret programs. They have been vetted and vetted and vetted to comply with the program need defined by law by Congress.

It's terrifying to me that with so many approval needed, so much abuse of government funds still got approved. It's a very hard job for the President to clean the house.

He should start first by cleaning his own house. It's ridiculous how much grifting he gets away with on the back of US taxpayers.

Where’s her big ass cross today?

Are you this bigoted against Muslims and Jews too? Does a hijab make you unhappy?

Hijab is not equal to cross.

True. Hijab represents slavery of the woman. I’ve seen them with chains on their faces.

And what's a cross? An execution device that Christians like to use as a symbol of their devotion by forcing people to live how they think is holy. Because Jesus forced people to live how he wanted them to, right?

Take your anti Christian bigotry elsewhere. This was a disgusting accusation.

Oh so you can dish out Muslim hate but can't take it? That tracks. Lol

If he really does what you claimed, you think he would not be convicted more on top of the 34?

Just STFU. USAID does great things that help people, save lives, and are a great benefit for the U.S. image abroad. Otherwise, we would just be known for our history of DoD, State, and CIA supporting authoritarian regimes that oppress their citizens. Trump is setting us back 50 years.

Then Congress can amend the law that created USAID and zero out USAID in its next budget.

Or Elon can shut it down and then he and his team will receive Hunter Biden/Fauci/Milly style “term” pardons.

Hate the game, not the player.

Do you seriously think Congress appropriated money to promote transgender rights in comic books?

Why couldn't they get support from the US mission in country like any other fed?

Our good friends worked for USAID - never knew it as they were contractors and I just assumed NGO, state department or foreign service.

Anyway; they got fired - it totally sucks.

But, really; if I have known these people for years but never even heard of the federal agency they were contractors for why is everyone freaking out?

Foreign aid will always be a part of US national security- and I am sure it will resume…but in the scheme of things this is not really an issue.

Potentially firing thousands of FBI agents seems a lot more serious.

They aren’t tourists who lost their passports. They are dedicated public servants working on important projects. Something sociopath tech bros on ketamine can’t understand or relate to.

Can you clarify? Are you talking about contract issues?
