Cell phone ban in schools

Anonymous
From Churchill:
Cell Phones - In an upgrade to our current PMD policy, all students will be required to place their phones into pouches or "cubbies" at the front of the room during class time. This change will eliminate technology distractions during classes, while making sure students have access to phones during an emergency. They will be allowed to use them during transitions and lunch.

However, it doesn’t state what the consequences are for kids who don’t follow the policy.

Parents who don’t like it should start to get use to the idea now.

Next get rid of books! Book tech is too distracting. I've read that too much book time is bad for teens. We should return to the spoken word or maybe hand-written parchment.

What books? They rarely have books in MCPS anymore. Have you seen what the HS library's look like. You don't get books in class. If you are lucky an online version.

I was very upset when they implemented Yondr puuches at my kids middle school. I’ve totally changed my mind. It’s great.

What were you worried about at the beginning? What do you like about it now?

From kids schools, cell phone policy news: “Away all day w/ allowance at lunch” and for the newsletter “Away and Off.” Both were bolded.

What MCPS MS is using this?

OK, so how /why is Churchill doing this? And how did the rest of us get it in our schools?

Why? They will just use their chomebooks instead.

I know you think you’re being funny and/or clever, but you actually just sound incredibly stupid and vapid.

I thought it was funny. The Ludites are annoying.

That’s because you’re a moron.

Chromebooks don’t have TikTok which is 99% of the battle. They do not abuse Chromebooks nearly as bad as they use their phones. Try stepping foot in a classroom once in awhile before making ignorant comments.

Yes it does. The kids can get around the blocks. You clearly have no idea what’s going on.

I’m a teacher. I know exactly what goes on in my classroom. I’m well aware some students can get past blocks-I wasn’t born yesterday. I also rarely use Chromebooks in my classroom, so that option isn’t really available to my students. Additionally, on the rare occasion they are used, I walk around to make sure it’s not happening. It’s not really rocket science. Chromebooks aren’t the problem. Cellphones are. Until you sign a contract and teach a class, do not try to explain my own work environment to me.

Kids can switch desktops in an instant. You are a chump for thinking you have it under control lol.

Because kids phone use in class and school is out of control and impacting the learning and social environment. Most reasonable adult in the buildings have had enough and want awareness, acknowledgement and enforcement of a cellphone policy. It’s already part of the code of conduct so schools but schools had some leeway. Now they are tightening the reigns and enforcing the policy.

Never seen kids use ticktocks on chromebooks and I am/was a daily Gogaurdian user.

Usually they are trying to watch YouTube videos, HBO max, or other random anime sites that make it through the piss poor 3rd party site blocking vendor. And LOTS of Games!
