It was the court that suggested assassination, during oral argument, as possibly/probably okay.

It wasn't a goofy phone call and the fact that you categorize it as such tells your partisanship.

The bottom line, the Supreme Court just okayed the idea that a president can inflict harm or death upon political opponents and is immune. If I were Donald, I am not sure I would feel safe right now.

The President is Commander-in-Chief of the military - that is a core Constitutional duty which gives the President absolute immunity from criminal prosecution.

So, yes, POTUS can order them to do anything, including using Seal Team 6 to assassinate political opponents. Because the opinion also says that one cannot inquire into motives when dividing official acts from unofficial acts.
