Judge Lewis Kaplan rules that a Jury found that Trump RAPED E. Jean Carroll as the word 'RAPE' is commonly used

The man who played a key role in the the E Jean Carroll lawsuit is so moved by his handiwork that he wants you to see the CNN appearance in which he discusses how moved he is by his handiwork.

Another view: This is a case that should never have been brought. The original incident occurred in 1995 or 1996; Carroll has said she does not remember precisely. She told two friends what she said happened, but never said another word to anyone, including authorities. Five years passed, then 10, then 15, then 20. Even in 2016, when a number of women accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct, Carroll stayed silent, in part because she worried that accusing Trump might help him politically, and she most certainly did not want to do that. She only spoke up in 2019, during promotion for a new book in which she revealed the alleged incident. She got lots of media, including a splashy rollout in New York magazine. (She also conducted paid 'Hideous Men' walking tours of New York, including a stop at Bergdorf Goodman, where she said the attack occurred.) She originally had no thought of suing Trump. Then she went to a Resistance cocktail party in Manhattan in honor of Kathy Griffin, the comedian famous for holding up a bloody effigy of Donald Trump's severed head. There she met the anti-Trump lawyer George Conway, who convinced her she had a good case and suggested a lawyer. She hired the lawyer. Plus: New York passed a one-year-only #MeToo law lifting the statute of limitations to allow people who said they were victimized long ago to sue. So all those years in which Carroll never said a word no longer mattered; Carroll sued minutes after the new law took effect. And to top it off, the Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman paid for the whole operation! This case was political from the start. There is no way to know what did or did not happen in 1995 or 1996. It should never have been brought.

And now, with an $83.3 million damage award based on an accusation that can never be proved or disproved, the lawyer behind the lawsuit pronounces on CNN: 'It brings to mind the old saying, the saying attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King -- the moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice.'

Then why was he found guilty?

RWNJs have no idea what happened at the first trial. There’s another screed going around on Twitter that says she didn’t tell anyone what happened until she wrote her book - that’s patently false because she told two of her best friends and they testified backing up her account.

Was she actually aggressive during the actual trial?

She won’t see a dime from him willingly. Can she place liens on his assets?

He's going to have to get an $83 million bond to appeal. I wonder which billionaire or authoritarian autocrat will help him with that.

He’ll die a natural death before all his appeals are exhausted. She won’t see one red cent.

He's not going to be able to appeal unless he can get $100 million to the Court as an appeal bond (120% of the judgement)

It also accrues 9% interest per New York state law. That’s like $20K per day.

He can appeal without a bond. The bond is required to stop collection proceedings from going forward during the appeal.

Obviously, she’s outraged. But do you think Trump is surprised with the amount. Were they (Habba et al) expecting this amount? Were they expecting something lower?

The big number is the punitive damages because he acted with malice. Trump was the personification of malice throughout the trial, even in front of the jury. He made the case for the maximum damages every day.

That's right - and this can also be seen in Alina Habba running her mouth like an a-hole too. Do that to the court and your punitive damages will go up. That's not "the system is rigged against me" - that's you being an a-hole.

What's the over/under on Trump illegally using campaign funds to deal with this?

I definitely think it's a non-trivial probability he does.

Does Trump even have that much money to pay for the nice he inflicted on the woman he raped? Or is he just going to grift the money from MAGAs?

The case isn't about the sexual assault so much as about him calling her a liar . The jury felt EJC was credible while DJT wasn't, and that EJC was harmed by Trump's public (untrue) statements

Apparently he’s immediately appealing, so no, he’s apparently not gonna pay anything right now at least, right, or do you have to pay even an appeal is pending ?

I mean, if he’s going to appeal, isn’t that an essence the same thing as saying it’s not true?

no, you can appeal that the award is excessive, or that the judge was biased

Or claim the judge gave bad instructions etc

we all know the judgement will get reverse and EJC will never see a penny of this money. I have no faith in our "justice" system.
