Rapinoe choking under those circumstances was, I’ll admit it, pretty entertaining.

I think it has been a fun and entertaining tournament. Much like the women Champions League and Euros.

Too bad about Ashley Hatch. She was in her prime at 28. Will be too old for the next World Cup and the US does not have anything close to the Euros or Champions League.

I do not care about Rapinoe’s off field stuff but she was over the hill in 2019. She was/is a turn over machine, slow, out of position and would not play defense. She is worst now. This is why Dunn had to play in the back in 2019. Dunn sacrificed her game(recognition/money) for Rapinoe. Watch Dunn’s club play. She would have been better on offense in 2019 and now. Would have love to see Ashley Hatch on this team vs Rapinoe.

This team should have been blown up after the Olympics. There always seemed to be tension/problems between the older and younger players in terms of style of play.

This is the thing. Everyone makes it about her politics. I can’t stand her antics, and just based on those she shouldn’t be representing our country.

But even if you put that aside, you’re exactly right. Her on-field play was horrible 4 years ago, and is worse now. Literally, anyone who knows anything about soccer sees it and openly acknowledges it. Announcers, analysts, fans, etc.

But US soccer, and Andonovski, somehow put the off-the-field stuff and bizarre cult-of-personality above her on-field limitations. Great that he’ll be fired for it, but that is so unfair to the rest of the team.

Much maligned Andi Sullivan and Emily Sonnet should be commended for their play today, along with Kristie Mewis who got her only appearance of the tournament solely to take a penalty and did her job under immense pressure.

PP here, adding that the above performances were not necessarily expected. Girma is the USWNT player of the tournament, and Emily Fox was absolutely outstanding, especially today.

Someday, I'd love the hear why Vlatko has no belief in Alana Cook.

And she walked away from that PK smiling and laughing. I was so confused, like did she think it had gone in? Or she just didn't care?

Yeah, in his defense its admittedly a hard problem to cut aging stars loose, especially when you think (incorrectly as it turns out now) the team is good enough to win with them because you are so much better than anyone else. Long-term its a good thing for the USWNT, blow it up, restock with a bunch of 23 year olds who are more focused on winning soccer games than politics and reading their press clippings, and look out in 2028.

Andonovski absolutely deserves to be fired for that Pino sub, and I’m sure will be.

I’m pretty sure Pino is my least liked athlete ever. I guess it’s not her fault she was subbed in, but her first touch was emblematic of why she has no place on this team. Her service was absolute garbage. I see better play on U14 ECNL teams.

Then of course there is her blown pk. Again, to be fair, 2 others did the same thing, and I love O’Hara.

But that game, those decisions, and the outcome is so unfair to the vast majority of the US team that deserved to win.

Everyone knew continuing to choose politics over performance would bite this team. After her benching post-Portugal, I thought Andonovski’s sense of self-preservation might prevail. Obviously not.

Essentially US soccer from the youth level to the National team. We are a political favorite feeder system.

I don’t think your statement is accurate about US Soccer. However, if you are correct, that political favorite feeder system produced a team that, today at least, dominated the #3 ranked team - 11 shots on goal for US v 1 for Sweden.

Over 4 games in this WC, US only conceded 2 shots on goals. In 4 games. Yet they only won 1 of those 4 games. That is a little unlucky, even for a team that was otherwise second best for large stretches of the Netherlands and Portugal games.

And imagine what we could have accomplished without politics and favoritism all the way from youth leagues.

Not really the issue. Rest of the world was going to catch up. Congrats to all the female athletes around the globe for their rather fast ascendency to consistency and quality around the globe. U.S. will be back. This was a year of old to new transition. Can’t win them all.

Yes because we can’t develop and women’s US soccer was always primarily athleticism. Lacking tactics, technique and touch.

It would have been nice to have Lavelle in this game. Coach should not have started her in the Portugal game. At some point you have to start thinking strategically. Play her in the second 1/2 if there is a chance to win the group. I think the Dutch were up by 5 after the first 1/2. Take the tie and move on.

Do Germany and Brazil develop tactics, technique and touch?

Yep I do not know what Lavelle will look like next cycle at 32. She has had a lot of injuries(ankle followed by knee), is a smaller player who is technical, fast and quick. Most professional players are done at that age. Sam Mewis 34 who knows.

Are you the poster that said Portugal was going to be an easy win?
